Gen5 Looking at '02 Camry on CL w/ new 2AZ [original overheated]

A friend of mine is looking to buy a used Camry and one of them is an '02 Camry SE I4 w/ 97K miles on the car itself but only 23K on the new engine. The previous engine was replaced due to overheating - I assume because of the common leaky water pump on the 2AZ.

What do you guys think? He's asking $6750 which he's been lowering over the past few weeks.. Maybe people are shying away because of the new engine? Looks to be a great deal if it checks out. We're going to try and take a look at it and see what kind of shape it's in.

Should the new engine be a no-go? Or is it worth it since the price is so low? Luckily I've got my own Camry to compare to so once I drive it, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out what kind of shape the car is in.

In the ad he says he has receipts for the new engine and with labor it came to $3300. I'll have to look over the paperwork and see where it was done. I'm with you though, if it's the dealership I don't think that should be a problem.

I was looking through CL and in some of his older listings for the car, he mentions the A/C compressor is bad [oddly, it's not in the newer listings ] and estimates it at $250. Of course anything could be wrong with the A/C though so maybe my friend can lowball him and get a good deal. Then she can fix the A/C, whatever, and still come out ahead with a nice ride.

I'll update you guys once I get a chance to look at it.. I'm kinda curious!
