Tail Light Modders needed: How to Disengage inner Tail Light pin?

I removed 3 nuts holding the inner tail light and all that appears to be missing is a White pin sticking down. I do not know how to "disengage" it without breaking. Please let me know the "safest" way to do this. My inner plastic in that tail light has come loose and I want to re-glue it or figure out a way to secure it. I just dont want to break the pin.

you can try and use a pair of pilars to pinch it, or just pry the housing off with a flat screwdriver/small pry bar. Just make sure you protect the paint. You can't break the part off, so don't worry.

I tried taking mine off a few times and i gave up. Mine rattles when my system is on and it sounds really bad. The other one doesn't make any noise at all. If you figure it out, let me know how you did it.

Hey Redline,
I have the same issue. The inner plastic glue or something came off on the right inner tail light if your facing the back of the car so it rattles with my subwoofer. If anyone can give us the proper way to remove one of these Pins. It has grooves and it looks like the pin pushes in from above and locks into the grooves. Tried pushing in the sides but doesnt seem to budge.

I have seriously thought about just prying it but i can barely get to it with my fingers. Someone that changed their tail lights has to know.

Break it to take it off. Take a pair of pliers and crush it.

I didn't use it on the reinstall either (but you could purchase new ones from the dealer). The 3 nuts are more than tight enough to secure the light.

What is rattling? Is something broken inside the light?

Maybe it's time for LEDs

The light has 2 layers of covers. The first is open from the side and the one beneath should be fully glued all around. That bottom one is loose. I want to get the LEDs but regardless I need to know how to disengage the white clip.

Anyone that has installed new tail lights please let us know.

I just did. (see above).

The white clip, you must break.

There must be a way cause the instructions say to be careful not to break.

Yep, I assume the instructions are for Toyota Techs who have the tools to disengage said clips. If you could disengage the clip by hand, doesn't it make the clip meaningless?

I forced mine out last time, and the whole light assy flew off like 3 feet away from me.

The second time, I broke the clip using nail clipper, and bought the replacement part from the dealer to put on my LEDs.

Not really, the main part is the 3 nuts that's holding the light assy.
