5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hey Everyone,
Joined the Toyota family when I purchased my 2009 Camry 4 banger in Sept of last year. I would have liked to get an SE, but one thing I will say is in Texas, there is very very limited selection when it comes to manuals. So you take what you can get.
Mods so far:
18" RTW 09 Black Mesh Rims (Houston Based Wheel Manf)
RKsport Body Kit
OEM Style Spoiler
Ebay Mesh Grill (Which doesn't have the surrond like the SE grill does, which I like)
Custom Dual Exhaust, don't know the brands of any of the parts used by the muffler shop.
Upcoming:
Tint
Tinted Tail/Heads or Halo Headlights/Led Taillights
Correct Tires
Revamped Interior
No Scrape Mod...AKA, no drop.
P.S. The wheel gap is very bad due to the tire shop putting me on 225 40 R 18 tires instead of the standard 225 45 R 18. When the tires go bad, I will fix the well gap!
Enjoy! Or Don't!

Reason: Type-O
Very nice, I like the grill. Better than the stock SE grill IMO.
Like the wheels too, I'm of the opinion that black wheels only work with black cars so thumbs up from me ^_^
Get lowering springs (I can't remember which ones lower a 4 cylinder evenly, I think it's the H&Rs). No scrape, and you'll enjoy your car 100% more. (The wheel gap being shrunk is only a minor bonus IMO, compared to the handling improvement).
I have oem springs now, and about 3 days after installing the RkSport lip, I bottomed out the front lip. Yay. The RKSport kit starts alot lower on the body line the the SE lip, so its pretty freakin low as is. If I drop it, I will most likely destory the front lip, which would be no fun.
I'm counting on when I get the right sized tires (or maybe a tad bit bigger than what comes on the TRD 18s) that will reduce the gap.
This is my daily driver, I don't want to have to spend 5 minutes trying to get out of a parking lot with a steep ramp!

Hmmm you shouldn't be bottoming out. The roads here are about 100x worse than anywhere else (Boston, MA), and my car's front bumper is probably about the height as your RK sport lip front spoiler.
The larger the wheels you get, the thinner the tires you'll need if you want to reduce the gap, even then it's miniscule and it will likely increase your overall ride height. Not so great for handling...
Looks good... but are your lips painted? They don't look painted.
Nope.
I have seen alot of post about paint issues of camrys', my car is less than 6 months old, and the paint already has swirl marks and pit marks/paint chips all up my hood and front bumper cover. I do drive about 1,500/miles per month for work, on debris filled highways, so that might have something to do with it.
Due to this fact, I"m going to repaint the whole car after I pay it off in 2 years. Makes no sense to paint the lip now if i'm just going to paint the whole thing again later.
If you see the unpainted RKsport lip in person, its a lighter black, and it looks good against glossy black, good contrast. Might get flat black rims with a red lip to make everything match (Red Calipers, Red Emblems). At least I think it looks good
I have been wondering for a long time how the RKsport kit would look on my car and finally someone has it on a black camry and i love it. You do have to drop it though and just be careful where you turn in and on steep driveways.
how much did you pay for that grille? i might have to copy you.
