5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I changed my Catalytic Converter on my Toyota Camary 2002 . It was the one that comes off the manifold , the header and all . And while i was changing it i took off the Ground on my Battery so the Check Engine light would go off . It was off after i started the car after completing the Converter Instillation . The car runs great but i am having a problem with the car Ideling when you stop it dies , Is this related to where i took the battery terminal off and the Computer is going to have to relearn its self or what would cause this to happen. Any and all help would be appreciated .
everytime you reset the ecm to clear a code by disconnecting the battery cable for more than 10 mins, you must drive the car for at leats 10-15mins as you normally would drive it to allow the ecm to recalibrate itself to your driving habits and learn its correct shift points and idle speed.
I saw a $16,000 question on Who wants to be a Millionaire last night: "What precious metal is accumulated inside a catalytic converter that makes thieves steal them from cars?"
The lady did a audience poll and ~50% said Copper, so she confidently chose Copper. (I thought so too)

Well i drove the Car over one Hour and it still refuses to idel it will die but run great got any other ideas . Or will it take a little more driving?
So need to let it idle for about 15-20 mins then, Correct it die if you take your foot off the gas pedel.
Someone told me that i need to clean and wipe out all the varnish/carbon from around the throttle body and throttle plate make sure this is SPOTLESS, then reassemble and restart, the car should stall one or 2 times and then run normally, the car has to compensate for carbon restricting air flow and recompensate for idle. Problem solved
Have you heard of doing this , if so how big of a job is it to clean this out .
got any instruction on how to do it
are you ever going to stop nit-picking at what other people say? At least I'm trying to help the guy instead of posting nonsense things that are completely irrelevant to the topic of the thread. Your so full of yourself. GROW UP YOU OLD WORTHLESS PIECE OF SH*T

I think they mean not idling but driving around town for like 15 minutes.
Well i took the battery terminal off again for about 20mins and then let the car set and idel for about 20mins and then the engine light came back on and it still want idel right . Had to charge the battery up also it was dead.
Got any more ideas.
