So far I like the unit, the F series has gotten some mixed reviews, mainly from the start up time as compared to other units or the older D3's. To me it isn't that bad, starts playing audio about 10 seconds in and I think the Navi is up in 40 seconds or so.
The cost is outlined in my first post, I installed it myself so no additional cost beyond the unit, dash, and wiring kit.
avic411.com is the place for all things Pioneer Nav.
The install was simple, standard wiring (I played with "systems" back in my high school days). My car is a non-JBL. I had it wired(solder and heat shrink) and installed within 2 hours or so, it worked perfectly from the first go.
Sound quality is a lot better than stock.
Kit is a "Metra" but I would consider the Scotsche kit as I believe the dash trim is one piece instead of utilizing the trim ring around the unit. (both can be had on eBay). 2007+ Camry dash kit, wiring kit was your basic Toyota one: Toyota 97+ I believe.
VSS wire was a purple with silver dots which had to be cut from the factory harness and attached to the units harness as opposed to just "tapping" it. Unit comes with 3 free months of MSN direct for weather, gas prices, traffic, and movie info. Also came with the iPod cable.
Any other questions just ask. It was really pretty simple. I've had experience in the past doing these things but the skill level should not be beyond anyone as long as you take your time.
For those on a budget the Avic-F700BT also seems like a great deal at ~$340 or so.
I'm not too big into "mods" I like subtle and clean, it goes with being old.
My only other big thing is the Katzkin leather I installed myself as my car is only a base manual CE which I paid $15,000 for new. The thread for that is
Katzkin aftermarket two-tone leather installed The leather looks a LOT better now though as the wrinkles have all smoothed out.
The leather and navi were worth every penny. I also have installed: Gentex Auto-Dimming mirror with homelink and compass, factory body color mud flaps, factory spoiler, WeatherTech mats, and 4300K Xenon bulbs with squirrel spotters covered. All very simple, classy, and subtle.
