5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hey guys, this is my first post so I hope this isn't a duplicate or something >.<. I have a 2007 Camry LE with the basic factory car stereo system right now, but I hate them. I was wondering whats the best way to upgrade it by spending around $700. I listen to techno and stuff like that so bass would be an important factor. Would getting new speakers, a sub, and an amp be enough, or would the headunit not be able to support it and also need to be replaced? Also, I have been reading up on the installations, but still practically a noob at this kind of stuff. What kind of mounting kits, wiring kits, tools, and other stuff would I also need to purchase in addition to the actually stereo components? What places/websites would you guys recommend to purchase it?
(If possible please provide a list of exact parts)
THANKS ALOT IN ADVANCE FOR THE HELP
(sorry for being such a noob >.<)
wow you are such a noob!! haha im j/k I was noob with sound systems untill like last july when I decided to get some bass in my 09 SE.
So, I am not sure but I would think LE would have same sound as SE ( I do not have the JBL sound system that comes as an option, I wish!!!)
If its same sound then all you need is a good subwoofer. Now for 700 bucks you will have to look for some good deals, on ebay or such.
I currently have a JL audio 500/1 amp (which means its a one channel amp and it can give out 500watts which is way enough). I bought it for 300 on ebay. My sub is a JL audio W6v2, I paid 300 bucks for it at a great deal because I know a friend who works at 6th ave electronics. You could probably get it for same price on eBay. The sub is great and it requires very little space (small box). The sound is very clear even with stock speakers. When you turn the bass off to -5 they produce very clear and crisp highs.
JL audio is like a mercedes or even ferrari of car sound systems, top of the line. But it is pricy. But i wouldnt trade mine for anything.
Then you will need a amp wiring kit, which is around 100 dollars. And to install youll pay around 50-100 bucks.
Other brands you can look into are Kicker and Alpine.
STAY AWAY FROM SONY.

any questions....then just shoot and I and others will surely explain!
No need for a $300 sub unless that includes the enclosure. I'd go with one Image Dynamics ID12 or Arc Audio Arc 12 subwoofer with a custom or prefab enclosure. That will run about $300 or so.
You'll still need an amp kit like this one: http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDe...rodID=KOL-AK44
I have this kit and I can tell you that you'll still need to add some speaker wire because it doesn't come with enough for a Camry.
Then you'll also need to add a LOC so you can use the stock head unit.
Im my 2005 Camry LE, im using the stock headunit for now, I have a JL Audio 500/1 with a 10" MTX 8510 series sun in a super bass box that i got for cheap. Hit pretty hard for a 10", and the plus is that you cant really hear it outside your car, but bumps hard inside the car, so you dont have to worry about popo's. The only con about my setup is that im using a stock headunit and a crappy line-out converter, and its only loud when i fold down my back seats.
Basicly any setup will work, just stay away from crappy brands like sony, fusion, ect. Some really good brands that you can trust are Alpine, JL Audio, Kicker, are the only ones i can think of right now.
This isn't exactly the best place to ask for these kinda questions.
Either go to the subtopic for Car audio and electronics we have here on TN, or to another car audio forum. I use http://www.caraudio.com/forum/ a lot previously when I had to look for ideas and products.
All you would need is front comps, an amp to power that, HU, and a sub with a monogamy to power that as well. Then you'd need some money for installation stuff, wiring harnesses, crimps, solder, sound dampening, speaker adapter brackets, and other stuff.

I have the same setup with stock headunit. I paid $300 for the JL amp + sub and $30 for the box. The sub is a 12w6v2. I didn't know anything about car audio installation either so I found a guy that installs independently for $50 bucks and the LOC cost $10. I also just brought Infinity 6x9 speakers for the doors which I haven't installed for $50. The amp kit cost $50.
Spent around less than $500 and sounds decent. Need to build a new box though, tiny boxes + big subs = not as good.
So far, if I still feel the audio is lacking, then I'll switch out the headunit. I can't find anything on if our stock headunit has an EQ curve or not or anything about it. That JL cleansweep seems expensive.
