All I've ever owned is Camrys, starting from 92. Al lwere second or third hand with original trannies. All car trannies were going well at over 150,000 miles with ZERO problems (except for a leaky gasket on a 95 but that's no biggie)

Had I not had one of them stolen or one of the others totaled, I am pretty confident the trannies would still be going just as fine into well over the 200,000 mark. My mechanics were predicting that before the unforseen happened. Hope that helps a bit

My sister's camry had 230k miles before the tranny gave up. Oils were not always changed on time, but changed eventually.

Gen6

Since Toyota has had so many transmission problems with the 6-speed automatic in the gen 6 Camry, I wonder if that will have any bearing on the actual service life? I mean people have had problems with transmission flare, but have there actually been any reported failures with the 6AT (e.g. car won't shift anymore)?

From what I have read and remember from the the forums, very few people have actual failures with the transmissions. Just the occasional flaring problem, which my car has. Many people seem to have had problems with replacement transmissions though, if it was replaced by the dealership under warranty.

My 1998 camry v6 le had 282,000 miles when I sold it for $2000.

I was the original owner and the transmission had no problems, I did change the fluid a lot if it looked burnt.

i have changed the fluid of all my 10 cars i have owned every 30,000 and never had to change a tranny once. American, US, several nissans and even a chevy vega. Manual or auto, change the fluid and you probably wont go wrong.

Lets see

1992 camry failed at 75k but is was all local NJ driving and it was 15 years old
1996 camry 88k sold with no trans problems
2003 camry 48K perfect so far
2007 camry was replaced at 6K due do a hard shift between gears 2-3-4 all is fine now
I would agree with the reset change your fluids and take care of it it will last
