This kind of response is not helpful. I can't believe you are the moderator too. If you are not going provide a reason response please dont waste everyone's time.
If an auto trans change the fluid completely ever 30-40K miles (except WS fluid). Come to a complete stop before changing from D to R or R to D. Don’t rev the engine and drop the trans into gear, if towing turn off the O/D, don’t hotrod the car.
Barring some trans defect it should last the life of the car if treated right.

Thanks! The reason I ask, some cars, no matter how well you maintain the tranny, it will die after x amount of kilometers, just poorly built/designed.
Ive seen properly maintained transmissions go out at 100 miles. Some go to 100,000 miles. Some that arent even maintained at all go to 200,000+. It is a gamble. You cant put an average on its life.

Just got a chuckle about the idea of "properly maintained" and "100 miles" in the same sentence...but agree with your statement. I once had an Audi100 with 250k miles...refused to do proper maint. as I was a student w/o money and the tranny never did show any signs of age.
you cant average transmission life, as it goes when it goes
if properly maintained it should keep going as long as your car does, but if an unforseen failure comes into play it could have a much shorter life.
it really is a gamble, just as any other car part is.

You can probably contact Toyota and ask what the MTBF is for a particular year and model and they might actually know. But they might not, and who really cares at their end? Are you going to die from cancer and if so, at what age. Risk factors my friend.

yea just properly maintain it...hopefully you dont have bad luck It should last as long as your engine does if not longer ... but with manuals most of the time the failures would be the clutch, which is more the drivers fault than the tranny.
I lost a '92 Camry at close to160K with no problems and drove another to about 220K when I had to clean a solenoid due to very little maintenance. Ran it another 30K before I parked it. Have an '01 with over 100k and tranny is strong. Rarely change fluid (maybe drain and fill every 50K). However, also recently purchased an '04 with 60K and the tranny feels terrible. Just had all the fluid changed but it hasn't really helped. Who knows how long it will last though. It really does seem to depend upon how it's driven and taken care of. But I also tend to believe the tranny's beginning in '02 just aren't as good. BUT THAT'S JMHO!
