hey guys,
i need some advice on this one because its been an ongoing issue for some time now and im at my wits end with this one..ive asked every tech at my shop and everyone i know, ive tried numerous things but NOTHING seems to remedy the issue.
at exactly 70mph my car has an annoying vibration that can be felt through the steering wheel and throughout the whole car...its not a horrible vibration, but its certainly noticible....it goes up to about 80-85, and it seems to go away. Ive tried balencing the tires several times, done more than 3 alignments, replaced the tires with brand new yokohama advan S4's and nothing has helped.
car is a 2003 camry SE with TRD springs, KYB GR2's, TRD rsb, TRD fsb, TRD exhaust and poly bushings. everything maintenence wise has been done, and most parts on the car including the brakes, fluids, balljoints and such are brand new oem toyota. this prompts me to wonder whats wrong with the vehicle because i feel like ive done everything i can.
any ideas?
my dogbone mount is brand new, and the other mounts are fine as i tested them in the shop...the engine has barely any movement even under a loaded test
1) An out of balance half shaft
2) Bad CV joint
3) Bearing/bushing in the driveline
4) Rotor out of balance
5) Out of round wheel
If the vibration is on the rear:
1) Axle bearing
2) Rotor out of balance
3) Out of round wheel
There are some other items that I have run into in the past. That would include a bad flywheel, clutch plate or pressure plate on manual trannies and a bad flex plate (cracked) on auto's.
Edit: These last items will occur at the same engine rpm regardless of speed. Do you just have the vibration at 70 +/- only or can you feel anything in your lower gears?

I had a similar issue with my Aurion. Vibration on the freeway at 120km/hr.(75mph)
We tried everything, new tyres, different rims, took the car back to toyota and nothing would solve the problem.
I had new wheels put on just after i got the car - with a wider 235x40x18 tyre. We always used the same sized tyre when testing. Different tyres, different rims, but always the same size and always the same problem.
Anyway the tyre fitter had the idea to change the tyre size down a size to 225x45x18 (still on the same 18 inch wheel). It worked... After months of trying everything, it was a simple matter of adjusting the size of the tyre we were using.
Have you got non standard wheels and tyres. If you do, consider a different sized tyre. Worked for me.
im having vibrations at 120+km as well, are your wheels stock or aftermarket? Does the rims not being hubcentric have an effect? I am looking into hubcentric rings to see if it could solve the issue. Most aftermarket rims have a bigger diameter hub openings, even if the bolt pattern matches, you would be relying on the bolts to center the wheel instead of the hub as opposed to stock which will fit snugly. Also I've read that the bolts may snap if you hit a pothole since the "load" is not centered to the wheel. Thats what I know so far and Im still asking around. Would warped rotors have an effect as well?
you and me both...im as clueless as can be now
punks, maybe i have a slightly bent or out of round wheel
Cor, I was gonna suggest have your wheel to be inspect by the wheel specialist shop. But before you do that, I would get together with some of the TN on this forum and borrow their stock wheels that has no known issues. Put on their wheels and if the problem goes away then it's your rims. But if the problem is still there then it's your car. Good luck man.
