5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I heard from some people that these subs and amp are not that great. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a similar package (2 12" subs + amp) to this for $200 and under. Also, I was planning on getting this :
Is $200 your budget? If not, I would look into either JL Audio, Kicker L7s, or even Audiobahn for subs. As far as amps go, I've always been happy with Rockford Fosgate. But eveyone has their favorite.
I too am looking for a sub and I see that JL Audio makes the stealthbox for the Camry. Maybe worth looking into.
Ebumdude has that box and is apparently very happy with it. I think the amp and subs are not bad entrance level components, not high end but they will do the job just fine. However, I think the amp will have problems to push both 12" subs appropriately. I would either only install 1 sub (the enclosure can be ordered for one 12") or find a different combination. I used a Alpine MRP-500 amp with a single 12" Rockfort Fosgate P3 - shallow mount and a custom enclosure.
JL amps are better, of course, but also much more expensive and only makes sense if you buy a matching sub...adds up quickly and $200 will not do it. If you just are looking for a nice extra punch, something cheaper will be just fine.

Yea I think the amp might be a little weak to power the subs. The subs are only 400wrms but but amp is 500w rms (@ 2ohm) so you should be pushing about 250wrms to each sub.
It might be okay but let me tell you this. I have a 400w rms 12" sub and I got a alpine mrp-450. Puts out 220w at 4 ohms (i need a dvc sub to take advantage of the amp). Anyywas with 220w I needed the gains at 3/4 to get some lower volume but decent bass.
Trying looking for reviews on that specific package? It looks like a commonly sold set up? Some guy on here got the 2 same subs just didn't get the amp. So maybe you could find some good info on them
I don't like how Kenwood sounds, I had a single 12" Sony, and wanted to upgrade to 2 12" Kenwood, but the Kenwoods sounded worse than the single Sony.
All depends on how its tuned, powered, what kind of box etc. Too many variables to say one is better then the other.I know you not saying sony is better then kenwood or vice versa but im just pointing it out.

+1
Just find something what fits your budget and suits your listening needs. We are all different in our priorities.
When I played my single P3 to various local audio shops w/o showing my setup, they where impressed and even more so when they found out it's a single, shallow mount Rockfort Fosgate (bought all components on e-bay: $80 for the Alpine amp and $100 or so for the sub).
im selling used 2 12" kicker comp's in a box.
it has the same fitment as that custom box.
just doesnt follow the curves of the trunk
you would only need to buy amp.
PM if interested. ill let it go for cheep

did a lot of research last night on what amp im gonna choose and i found that jl outperforms a lot of the others out there, i would reccomend not cheaping out on your sound system because its gonna show and your eventually gonna want to spend some money and upgrade so u might as well do it now

...agree on the quality of JL....but the rest is simply .... their is a difference between cheap and value. You can have the best JL amp but a crappy or not matching box and sub, listen to music with less bass requirement or don't like the sound of the JL in particular....etc etc etc many reasons why people are completely happy even if they don't have JL.
In car audio it's a hit or miss,u can go thru so much equipment b4 u know it & nvr be happy.U can spend alot or alittle b4 u find that magic combo that will sound good to the ears.

I agree also but...not like the sound of a JL? i know what u mean when your talking about everyone has a preference but youd be crazy not to like the sound of a JL when they are one of the top SQ brands out there in america.
Im not saying to go buy JL, just for him to go and buy something worth the money and time hes gonna take to install it.
I have 2 - 12" Kickers and a Planet Audio 1100 amp. Got it for 210 installed at a local flee market. Check out your local flee market. Do your homework first. Check out prices and head over there with a bargaining mindset. Good Luck.
