5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Now, call it a lack of general bluetooth knowledge, but I was wondering if this new stereo A2DP Bluetooth support on the iphone 3G will allow us to listen wirelessly through our stereo in a new Camry?
Nope. Unless you get a Head Unit that supports A2DP and pairs properly with the iPhone (or any other A2DP device for that matter, there are dozens out there aside from the iPhone), which I don't know if any exist.

2010 camry has the a2dp support. now we would eather have to get the navi from the new one and replace with our current ones or find out if we can mod via software or something the current nav to allow a2dp.
The biggest problem with A2DP is that it kills the devices battery life, which means it's pretty pointless in a car since you'll have to charge it shortly anyway.
A2DP sound quality is also not as good as hard wire.
I have Moto A2DP headsets that I use but the battery life and synchronization requirement has me going back to standard headphones.
Or maybe we're talking about the next Iphone 3G...
Not sure, I don't have an Iphone but I did read some of today's Iphone 3.0 (google it) update.
Suffice it to say, I find it kind of hilarious that it's finally able to do things my old HTC did about 3 years ago, though I use a BlackBerry now.
My HTC Mogul, when it's online, can act as a mobile WiFi router, with a direct interface with the Sprint Network. That's 1/2 megabyte per second download speed on average anywhere I get a 3G signal.
I think the Iphone should be able to do that now... with a USB cable of course lol.

hehe totally agree. you should of seen my monster htcs... the htc athena and the htc touch cruise. athena has been sold but still have touch cruise. i have the iphone 3g and as above said, a2dp is coming in 3.0 on the iphone 3g only (not on the 2g aka 1st gen). camry will have a2dp beginning in 2010.
about battery. i have the moto rokr a2dp headset. forgot what its called exactly but the battery lasted a few good hours. the phones didnt take a bit hit bc they were in standby and the moto switched songs. iphone 3g shouldn't take that big of a hit.
not a big fan boy or anything but 1 thing you have to remember and i can attest to this. a2dp has been around for a while but the quality compared to wired headphones never came close. its only recently that the hardware across the board is beginning to catch up to wired. the iphone 3g should help this get into the mainstream and as long as the chipset on the iphone is good and the playback devices(like or camry) also are good then i definatly see this catching on finally.

I use a Blackberry with an A2DP Jabra headset almost every day to listen to music. It's incredibly useful to be able to control playback, volume etc. from the headset without having to touch the phone (which I can leave locked).
When a phone call comes in the music stops and I can answer/hangup by tapping the earphone.
A2DP would be incredibly useful in the car doing the same thing but through the car stereo instead of headphones and using controls on the steering wheel to control playback etc.
My phone is usually plugged into a charger when in the car anyways so battery life is a non issue.

At least I've never been able to get it to work.
I can get my wife's new iphone to recognize my A2DP Jabra headset as a regular hands free set but not to do stereo or to control playback.
From looking around it appears that the iphones (new or old) don't actually support A2DP without a 3rd party adapter or some other hack.
It's one of the main things that keeps me from getting an iphone for myself. http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=iphon...fp=Li-R6mbKWrc
The Toyota bluetooth kit Blu Logic supports A2DP. I have it in my car and it works beautifully. If you don't have JBL or Navigation the Blu Logic is a simple plug and play handsfree system.

Does the Blu Logic work if the stereo is turned off? Or do you have to just turn the volume down to zero and keep it on at all times?
It works with or without the stereo being turned on. The blu logic control unit includes it's own power amplifier for the front speakers so that way the phone call volume remains constant regardless of how loud you had the radio set before a call. I hardly ever have my radio turned on and it (the blu logic) works perfectly without the radio being on.
Hope this helps. It really is a fantastic integration into the car.
