Low coolant level but no leaks

I have a 2002 Camry V6. I checked the coolant level and it's about at L mark, when engine is cold. I don't see any visible leaks. I had my water pump changed last year in march.

Any ideas what is happening to the coolant? Engine oil seems to be fine and tranny fluid seems normal (red).

Thanks in advance.

Even though this is a closed system your coolant still may evaporate.
It could be a tiny leak that evaporates on the hot engine. Look for traces of coolant under the radiator cap.

Top it off and watch closely.

Is my Coolant Reservoir missing a piece? see red circle. Is there suppose to be another hose that connects to it or some kind of plug? Thanks

i have a 2003 V6, and the Coolant Reservoir is like that on mine also.

if after using your car, park overnight, then check underneath. if no leaks, then no leaks.

just top off the coolant to Full and watch it over next days/ weeks.

it not missing a piece, i believe that part is for air to be release when the coolant flow back and fourth

But leaks can be internal as well How often do you need to top off your coolant since you had your car?

in that case, then might need professional to check it over since it would be hard to check yourself right?

When the engine warms up, the coolant expands and is under pressure and the extra coolant needs somewhere to go. Thats why theres an overflow tank, the thing you're talking about. Thats why it appears as full when the engines warm.

It may be simply normal! The cooling system works like this, when engine is cold your coolant bottle level is at Low. When you run the engine it gets hot, the engine can overflow coolant when hot and running, it is designed to blow into the coolant recovery tank, thats what it is there for and this is completely normal.
When you shut off the engine, as it cools it reverses the process, excess coolant from the bottle is supposed to be sucked back into the radiator. This is how a closed cooling system is designed to work and this is probably what explains why you noticed the level in the bottle changing.

Fill your coolant recovery bottle to max mark with engine cold. It ought to stay that way for quite a while. If you have to do this every week, then yes you may have an internal engine leak like a blown head gasket - or your coolant bottle may just have a pinhole crack - or some other minor problem like a weepy hose end from a loose hose clamp.
