Rims reduce mpg...?

after I got my rims on, i know the rims are wayyy more heavier than my steelies but....

i've realized i've had to rev harder and my mpg seems to be decreasing.... is it just my driving habits? or do changing to heavier rims really decrease mpg significantly?

somebody correct me if im wrong, but the heavier wheels makes it harder for the car to move them and so leaves the car requiring more power to move. using more power=using more gas. the significance of the decrease depends on how much heavier the wheels are and driving habit. hope this answers your question sufficiently

yes heavier rims will require more rotational force to get them moving.
hence why people like to buy light weight rims. eg. volks

Yup, the heavier wheels do require more rotational force like others mentioned.

BTW, I'm a friend of the Miata guy; I think we met up for a photoshoot with Paul (PrincessPeach) a while back.

When you changed to heavier rims, I'm guessing the width of the tires are little wider and thus cause more rolling resistance. More rolling resistance means, you guessed it, more gas. If this the case, yes more gas. Imaging yourself riding a bicycle, if the tires/rims all of a sudden got wider and heavier, you are going required more energy pedaling. The physics is the same for a car?

more unsprung weight, combined with a larger rotational area will cause a reduction in mpg, or at least the illusion of it.
