Match color paint in spray can?

I can buy touch up paint in dealer. Do they have the paint in spray can? I have some small area (1" x 3") at the bumper that was scratched. I want to do some DIY repair.

sand -> primier -> sand -> color paint (spray) -> clear coat (spray) -> polish -> wax

Just say no.

To do this properly you need to sand down the area needing repair, clean and lightly sand the rest of the bumper, and then paint the entire bumper. I've never seen anyone do a local spray job using canned paint that didn't turn the car into a hooptie.

ditto on what gdanaher said.

I don't believe they sell the spray color at the dealer, only the touch up pens. at least at the dealers around here I havent seen that. Id call around to body shops and get a quote on getting it resprayed. you have a new car, dont make it look like a beater. If you want to save a buck, take the bumper off yourself and take it in. I saved around $100 bucks taking the spoiler off my car and just taking it in for repaint. Well if your ambitious, and have a air compressor and spray gun, you could do it yourself. I have a compressor and a gun, and I wouldn't even consider trying that repair.

this is where i got my 3Q3 salsa red pearl in a spray can: http://www.automotivetouchup.com/spray_paint.asp

I haven't tried it on a touchup type job yet, only on color matching my rs grille. I want to use it for touchup and I made a thread a week ago asking what the best ways were. Basically the way you said it is the correct way, but I am a bit hesistant on doing it and it turning out like crap. Why dont you try it first and be the guinea pig :P

Yes. It can be done if you do it properly. It is called "Smart Repair / Paint". Especially at the corner of the bumper or some other special area of the car body, smart paint can do the job effectively without cost a lot of money and time. You don't have to take the bumper off, but you need to mast the surrounding area that you don't want the paint get to it. You should not see the difference if you don't look closely. Anyway, it will not be the same as original no matter you do it or the body shop do it for you.

It can cost you less than $30 to fix it vs $200 to paint the whole bumper in the body shop. If you have a relatively new car, you may be willing to spend more money for your own mistake. But if your car is 4+ years old, you may consider to save some money.

Here I did a repair on my scratch alloy wheel. This is the first time I did it, not perfect, but gain some experience. Make sure you are patient and don't overspray, spray a couple more time with thin layer instead. Otherwise, you have runs and drops and mess everything up. I think it is the same idea that you may do it on the body.

After the clear coat is completely dry, I use Mother's powerball with Turtle polish compound to polish it, and bring back the shiny wheel.
