I currently drive an 04 LE V6 Camry and it is at 81000 km right now(bought it in Oct 03). I will be replacing my timing belt sometime this June and also do an engine flush+cleaning fuel injectors.
Someone told me that while dealership is replacing the timing belt, I should also ask them to inspect or do something to the water pump, camshaft and crankshaft. I don't quite get what he's talking about..... Do you guys have any suggestions? And besides those 3 mentioned above, should I also ask Toyota to inespect or replace anything else? I am a total noob when it comes to auto mechanics so any inputs is greatly appreciated. Thnx alot!!
Get the water pump replaced, whether it needs or not, because soon after it will be due. So you might as well get that done at the sametime and save money on labour.
As far as the cam/crank shaft i don't know. I haven't and never had mine checked.
Check your manual for the service guide, it has a breakdown of what is due at every mileage interval.

Timing belt so soon? It's suppose to be 144,000 KM. That's according to Toyota schedule as well.
When you replace your timing belt get them to CHANGE your water pump, not inspect it. They can't really inspect anything, they can only check for leaks. It's the labour cost that is the killer so that is why you would have it changed when you have your timing belt changed.

As for the crankshaft and camshaft, the guy said that it is better to replace the seals on both crank/camshafts to make sure they don't leak. Is it necessary? thnx

i recently got my 03 v6 maintain done, it was at 93k, this is what i did
1. water pump
2. timing belt
3. cam seal(2)
4. crank seal
5. spark plug (6)
6. a/c belt
7. p/s belt
8. valve cover gasket, left and right
9. spark plug tube seal.
do the water pump at the same time, it just saves on labour costs later.

The 1MZ and 3MZ in the Camry has always had a timing belt. The new 2GR has a timing chain.
To the OP - along with the timing belt and water pump, it's probably a good time to do general things like an oil change, air filter, cabin air filter, windshield wipers, and a transmission fluid drain/refill, if you haven't done those things recently. Keep in mind a lot of those things you can do at home and save $$ on labor.

Changing timing belt and water pump goes hand in hand. You can call your dealer to find out how much it cost to change the water pump by itself and then you will realize why it makes sense to do them both. If I remember correctly it takes about 3 hours to change the timing belt/water pump. The water pump itself is relative cheap compared to the labour, that is why you do both.
When I got my timing belt done, I got all the other belts changed too. the ones they have to take off anyway to get at the timing belt.

my timing belt and water pump was 700 with tax and labour at the dealer...or was it 500 i can't remember off hand..

My uncle did everthing for me, i just brought all the part, about 250.00, he only charge me 100 dollar, dealer wanna to charge about 300 dollar for just the timing belt, local shop esimate about 4 dollar for everthing
yea it's all labour costs...the parts are cheap..lol

tranny drain and refill
Where did you have this done and what did it cost? I have 03 V6 also but only 25K on it, since it's at the 6yr mark I wonder if I should consider it due for this kind of service.
