2002 SE V6 Automatic...5000 Mile Trip

Myself, wife and six year old daughter just completed a one month trip from Austin, Texas, to Lubbock, on to Albuquerque, NM, through Moab UT, up to Salt Lake City, Boise, ID to Northeastern Oregon, then to Portland Oregon. Leaving from Portland we drove the I-5 corridor down to LA then jumped on I-10 to San Antonio then up to Austin.

The trunk was loaded, my daughter in the backseat and all remaining free space around her filled with trip 'stuff'. The back of the car was sagging.

The car had 80k miles on it when the trip started. We averaged 28.31 mpg. 21.08 mpg was the worst and that was all the driving around Portland we did. The best we got was 32.73 mpg.

This post is of unimportance. Just a word about our trip and the car was great. I love the 2002 SE Leather Package.

Yeah, the Camry is a great car for road trips. I have a 2002 V6 as well. Drives very nice on highway, good acceleration (or decent). Quite and comfortable ride!

Last year, My wife and I went on a road trip as well, from Vancouver Canada to Vegas, then to San Fran and back to Vancouver .

You posted your MPG and I'm wondering if you were going the speed limit most of the way. I hear even 10 mph more would drop the mpg substantially.

Toyota Today,

Most of the time I as over the speed limit. Coming home across AZ, NM and TX i was driving around 80 mph.

Yep, once you pass Tucson and Benson, there isn't much to get in your way until you pass by Las Cruces and get stuck in El Paso traffic. When you get out of El Paso County the speed limit jumps to 80.

I love road trips, but I would rent a car for a 5000 mi trip. Can't take the rock chips and dents.

They actually have an 80mph speed limit road sign? max I see were 65mph in Arizona and that was in the desert so the road were strait and clear for miles. I was doing 100mph just to keep myself awake.

Why not least? This way you will NEVER have rock chips and dent. And the new car all the time is a plus.
