Is this a stupid question?

All right, I have a key to my car...but no remote. (It broke yesterday). Since I bought my car used, it only came with one key and remote. I know that you can buy a new remote online and program it, but I like the look of the new in-key remotes for the 2007 and up.

I was wondering, if I ordered a 2007 in-key remote uncut could I program it to my 2006 and would my dealership cut it for me? The only way I might see this as possible as the key blank cutting looks the same on the 2006 and 2007 and the features on the 2006 fob are the same as the 2007 in-key remote.

I thought I would ask here first rather than go to a dealership and ask and have the person look at me like I was stupid.

You question is not stupid, but the best people to ask is the dealer because this not a common thing to do, and not likely someone would know the answer. It's best to ask the dealer any way because you dont to buy it and then realize it doesnt work.

Yes, that's actually possible.

I've had the same thing happen on a Lexus for me. I brought it to dealership to cut and prgoram, but paid much less then typical for the key fob itself.

Sometimes you can even program the key yourself, some places offer instructions that vary by car. If you can't figure out how to program it, you can always bring it back to dealership.

Some websites even off them laser cutting keys if you provide a VIN# and key code on the key itself. I found a Lexus website that would do that for Lexus keys, duno if its the same for Toyota keys.
