5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I just bought a 2010 camry, well, waiting for it to come in. It has usb aux input but when I tried my 4th gen ipod and iphone, it didn't work. Does anyone know if I need the ipod adapter (add-on) or what the difference is between the usb aux and the ipod adapter. Is there a difference in fuctionality?
Since you're the first Gen 6.5 (2010) owner, I think, how about posting some pics of your new ride?
As for the aux, I think the USB is designed for the typical MP3 players, not for iPods or iPhone. But you can use the regular jack, I assume it came with it, like the older model?
still waiting for it to come in, so no pics yet...will do once I get it. Not sure if I should upgrade my ipod or get the ipod interface/adapter with it?

dont know what kind of connector it has but maybe its like in our laptops so he should use the usb connector from his ipod/iphone. i'll maybe go to the dealership one of these days and will look at a 2010 so will also find out about this.
Hey congrats on your new car! I think you are the first 2010 Camry owner on this forum. Please post tons of pictures of it! If you can try to post some pics of those LED tail lights in the night. Thank you
Buy the OEM Toyota iPod adapter that plugs into the back of the radio.
It amazes me how many times people have asked why the Aux input doesn't control their iPod.
well the 2010 has the usb input now so thats why he's wondering if theres a way to use it with his ipod. my guess is that maybe toyota will release a new ipod interface cable thats compatible with the usb input in the near future or the aftermarket will take care of it. i'll take a look at the manuals of changes and such later to see if i can find the specs on the new input.
I'm pretty sure the USB input allows the use of a flash drive, it's not intended for USB interface between your ipod and the radio. Try plugging in a USB flash drive with some MP3 files on it. The radio should be able to control access to the files stored on the flash drive.
It took Toyota until late 2008 to come up with a OEM interface for the iPod, so I wouldn't hedge my bets in waiting for the 2010 Camry to come up with a dedicated iPod interface through the USB as as soon as the first models come out (which I guess is now).
I took a quick look at the 2010 manual and the usb input works for newer ipods, i.e ipods after 4th generation and iphones don't work. There was a dealership install add-on called ipod interface/adapter, and after calling 3 dealerships, no one knows what that does..
Hey camry98Green, I was wondering if they gave you a time estimate on when your new 2010 will be delivered?
I ordered one over a week ago and the dealer still has not given me an accurate time period - all they say is that it will take "something like 3.5 to 4 months" for me to get my car.
I am ordering one of the less common manual SE's but that seems like a long time to wait!

I plugged my flash drive and played my MP3s just fine.
