5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Does anyone know of such a device? Basically I'm getting sick of people unbuckling their seatbelt and letting to go to fly and hit the post in the car. The plastic is so easy to scratch and I just hate the look of the scratched plastic. My supervisor has an 08 Camry and it is FULL of these scratches from people doing this.
My idea... Some kind of rubber or foam cover that will cusion the impact. Does something like this exist? If so, got a link or a name?
And YES I can ask the poeple not to do this but there are certain people such as higher ups in my company that I cant ask to do it gently.
you CAN ask them to do it gently. It's your car....and tell them if they want to treat you car like a company car, then they should just give you a company car or simply dont let them ride with you.
Sorry, I have no ideas for your question.

Did you not read his post? He said these are higher up employees (managers, vp's ,etc, I assume). You don't say things like that if you want to keep your job. Technically, they can't fire your for saying that, but it wont be a wise career move. I'm sure if he said something like that or simply dont let sit in his car, it will limit his career with that company. Or, when they have cutbacks, i'm sure he may be the next to go.

Regardless. Its Sean89's personal property. Have respect for a fellow employee's vehicle whether you're a coworker, manager or VP. Its like me sitting in your car and leaving toe nail clippings or boogers.
What if that seatbelt actually smacks the window and breaks it? Whos going to pay for that? Obviously its not the managers or VP as its "accidental".
Never seen such a thing but if you're creative, you can think of a way.
When we usually go out to eat and things we take turns driving. Funny thing is when I had my piece of crap 99 Camry noone wanted to come in. Its a circumstance where I cannot tell them no because this tradition of taking turns have been going on in the company way before I joined. I dont think I would get fired for it but it defiantly wont be good for the relationship I am building with them.
I have no problem telling my coowkers politely to be gentle but higher up I dont think would be wise.
First it was people would get in the car with dirt on their shoes. Solved that with weathertechs
Now its this :S. If I can just solve this I would be good to go.
Any and all suggestions welcome.
EDIT: Oh and thankfully it has never been hard enough for it to hit the glass or break it but there are some nasty plastic scratches.

Yes, I agree Sean. Some people just don't understand company politics. You can't say "get me a company car if you are going to treat it that way, or don't ride with me" Obviously these guys, don't work in a corporate world. Given that we are in a recession and it's an employers world, it makes it even worse. I;m not saying let them abuse your car, but you can't "tell them to give you a company car or don't ride with me if you are going to treat it that way".
How about slowing the retractor speed somehow. Will that work?

You really think someone would say get me a company car? Obviously not. There is something called...sarcasm. Company politics? How about courtesy? Respect for one another's property? If Sean was to do that to someones car that they are sitting in, would that person like it? This seat belt situation has nothing to do with work related or his performance.
Just because they are higher ups doesnt mean you let them do whatever they want or let it slide. If they are doing physical damage, you would say something. All he has to do is politely ask "If you dont mind, please dont slowly release the seatbelt when you unbuckle so that it does not smack against the window. Thank you" No stepping of toes and that didnt even sound remotely rude. As for the dirt on floor/bottom of shoes, theres nothing you or anyone can do. If they were putting their shoes on the chair or stepping on it, thats a different story. Thats what floor mats were meant for
I guess we all know who would bend over if the higher ups told him to.
So if he does make or find a cover that covers the buckle and they ask what is it. What is his response? "Its a cover to prevent people from letting go of the seatbelt which results in hitting the window"
Sean should make something like this
Of course, it covers the buckle itself instead of the seatbelt clip. You can get a cheap neoprene or seatbelt pad and cut it to the size of the seatbelt and cut a slit
I was also looking at those TRD seatbelt pad things. Didnt want to get those because the ones I saw looked like cheap knockoffs. Those would probably also do the job as they break the buckle from hitting.
The dirt from shoes is an understandable thing and happens, thats why I spent close to 200 dollars making sure that even though it happens, it can be cleaned.
Elastic sweat/wrist bands or head bands at sporting goods store, wrapped around the buckle! Chenille or terry cloth type for cushioning! Ensure it does not interfere with seatbelt function or you may face liability issue!
Dont remember who it was with the TRD shoulder pads. If you are reading this or know who it is can you post the pics again? I think I may just go with that since it theoretically should stop it from flying up to the top like that.
