5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I just bought a used 2007 Toyota Camry LE. It only came with one key. It is just the regular key with the big rubber head on it, and the rubber part is grey. I know the LE comes with remote entry, but the saleman said that was the only key they had to it. I was trying to read about it in the manual and was wondering; does the key being grey mean I have no master key? I was really hoping I could go to the Toyota Dealer and get a replacement remote entry key (because they are so very handy), but if my key is not the master, is that a big problem? And, does anyone know how much it would be to get a replacement remote entry key for my car, and is it especially expensive to have the whole system reprogrammed if I am missing the master? Any advice or suggestions would be very much appreciated!!!
The dealer makes the Master key using a pre=programed machine. you give them your VIN and they make the key, no other key required. You DO need to show them your Registration with your name on it (as proof you own the car).
As for the key type, I;m not sure what the Gen 6 uses. If it is not a chipped key, it'd $10. If it IS a chipped key, it;s a lot more.

The grey key is a sub key and is not the master. This is a chip key. When you buy the new chip key they should be able to program it with no problem. The first few years of the immbolizer system you had to have a master but not the case any longer.

Grey is not the master on my car, but why dont you do a very very simple test. Try opening the glove compartment, trunk, etc with the grey key. If everything opens with this grey key then it is your master and not the valet key. simple, right?
And yes, you can get them to reprogram it. When I got my used car, it came with one master and it cost me $100 for the second key but i have a 2002 but it should be about the price roughly.

Well, you should have had the dealer supply 2 wireless keys as a part of the sale.
Now you will be out a few hundred dollars for 2 keys, cutting and programming with both a wireless code and the immobilizer code.
