Factory Alarm Randomly Goes off

I'm trying to get a few tips before running to the dealers..

My 08' Camry i4 LE has been locking the same way..... I press the lock button twice, then the car honks once, and everyone's happy.

About a week ago, my car started honking twice after I press the lock button twice. This hasnt happened in 1.5 years but it didnt really bug me.. at first.

My problem is... my car's alarm goes off randomly after I lock it. It's like someone pressing the panic button on my fob.. WTF is wrong with my car all of a sudden??

I read another thread and have disconnected the battery. I will wait an hour and re-connect to check again. Any other info would help, thank you.

I've also read somewhere that I might need a "latch and sensor replacement"..

I have a 07 XLE and I'm seeing the same behavior as well.

When I lock it using the remote, some times it beeps once and some times it beeps twice.

Also, the alarm keeps going off frequently. I have been to the dealer like 5 times but they say they can't duplicate the problem. When I park my car at work, I park next to some buildings. The people who sit in these buildings are getting pissed off because of the alarm going off this often. They are even threatening to get my car towed!

Since the dealer isn't helpful, I'm wondering if some of you guys know what may be the issue here.

if the alarm goes on again use your key by unlocking the lock to disarm your alarm. this happen to my friend and what we did is while the alarm is alarming we unlock the car with his key manually and the alarm goes off. i hope this will help.

That doesnt fix the problem though...

Maybe it could be a F.O.B. issue? Wires inside the keychain may be touching activating the alarm without touching the button. has your Key Fob ever gotten wet or dropped excessively?

Now there is an idea. Try using the other key fob and see if the same thing still happens.

Hi JMSports,

I don't think this a key fob issue because this happens even when my car is parked far far away from me (much farther the range of the key fob).

Hi JJJJJJ,

Which grounds are you talking about? Can you please tell me where these may be located? And how can I clean them?

Thanks!

Update: I disconnected the battery for about an hour to reset the computer and while I was waiting, I also took out and put back the fuse for the horn. I also re-connected all the plugs right under the hood latch.

So far, it looks fixed. My alarm hasnt gone off since then even though it still honks twice after I double-lock it. (knock on wood)

The dealer says that they found out (and fixed) the problem:

The sensor under the hood was faulty and was sending the signal as if the hood was open. Then when I would park the car in the sun, the metal would expand causing the alarm to trigger.

Another problem was that the passenger front door's locking mechanism was not working properly which would cause the car to beep twice when locking (which means that something is open).

They have fixed both the issues and now I hear only one beep when I lock the car. I will keep my ears open for the alarm now but hopefully the above will take care of the alarm problem as well (as the dealer mentioned).

Could the battery in the remote cause it? As the charge is almost gone it might be a warning to change it. Kind of like a smoke detector.

Thank you for the info, I will definitely go to my local dealer and give them your explanation. My car is randomly going off again and being in 100 degree Riverside heat can definitely be the reason for the expanding metal. It also beeps twice still so, I'm guessing I have the exact problems as your car did.

If you have any other info, I would appreciate it if you could post it here, thank you.

The car's panic stopped going off.. but my car randomly honks now. at intervals, maybe 4 times? and then it stops. very strange.

desiAquarius, have you had any more problems after the dealer fixed it?

So, what did the dealer tell you?

been too lazy to go.. plus, the honking is very random so I highly doubt it will even go off if I take my car there.

so I'm just hoping to find a way to fix it myself somehow
