Type T-IV and I would buy it from Toyota. Not worth saving a few bucks and get the wrong type. If you ask me, never cheap out on transmission fluid. It's not worth it.

^^^^ What he said. Buy as many quarts as you can so you don't have to go back when you do another drain/refill. Make sure after you do the drain/refill drive around your neighborhood for a few then check the level again.

Not to diss the other people but i have a 2002 V6. I bought it in 2005 for $15K OTD. Now at 125,000, and i have changed the ATF several times. It had 66,000 when i bought it, first time i changed it was then, and 3 or 4 times since then when i felt like it since its generally a good idea, but i have never dropped the pan (it has a strainer not a filter and every strainer i've ever seen was clean, and its asking for leaks. If it had over 100k i'd drop the pan and clean it).

anyway for the first few changes i went down for the dealer pain in the azz for $5 /Qt. I started looking at the bottles i tried a cheap TIV equivalent from walmart, i noticed a few odd shifts now and again but upon next change switched to Valvoline TIV equivalent (bottle label) and works just like TIV. A couple dollars cheaper per qt. On my V6 i use the 10 mm male hex, drain the pan, and refill exactly 3 qts and the dipstick is dead on. (Do it hot or cold, my idea is, if you do it cold all the gunk is in the pan where it belongs plus you won't burn yourself.)

(Perhaps this might sound like a lazy post for all the maint fanatics but i have been/done that on all my vehicles and theres a point where futility ensues. The bottom line is money and time and if we all had plenty of both you wouldn't be reading this. I maintained my 1988 truck to the point of valve jobs, cat replacement and in car overhaul and it still wouldnt pass CA smog - i got tired of beating my head against the wall every two years so i junked this perfectly good truck i dearly wanted to keep.)

The Toyota T-IV is just a re-labeled Mobil 3309 dino ATF. Now how about Mobil-1 fully synthetic ATF? But it's about $8 / quart.

The label doesn't say Toyota T-IV. However, for vehicles requiring Dexron III, it will be fine.
