Toyota or after market nav system? Either way it won't be just plug in because you'll have to hook up antennas for GPS reception and wires for dead reckoning.

Since you have the JBL system, you may need to bypass the amp if you get an aftermarket unit.

Im acually looking into the same thing with my camry. After considering factory (used on ebay for $800-1500), I have decided to buy a Kenwood unit. I am looking at the DNX-6140 or 7140. difference between the 2 is mainy screen size. The smaller (6.1") has an exposed CD slot and a real volume knob. The larger (6.95") is a cleaner look, but is also around $400 more. Functionality is about the same, and both have built in Bluetooth by Parrot....which is good since the factory Bluetooth will not work when the stock stereo is removed. The nav portion of Kenwood is also very nice since its made by Garmin. Unlike the factory nav, afterrmarket systems will let you change destination information while driving. If you have IPods, the level of integration with the newer Kenwood units is pretty awesome as well.
I was originally looking at the Pioneer avic-z3 because it has a hard drive and really cool nav maps, but from what i hear its not as user friendly as the kenwoods and is quite a bit more money.
All in all, to me, going aftermarket makes the most sense. There are many features gained, some I did not mention like DVD playback, back up camera, etc...and improved sound quality to boot. There are dash kits that will match the silver trim too, so the install will look clean.

Hope this helps. Probably buying the 6140 tomorrow.
Good luck! Jason

Very nice choice with going with a double-din setup.

I did the DNX8120 here: Kenwood DNX8120 Project

Not too hard to do if you have the patience. But you do need to get TYTO-01 as the JBL amp bypass, that can act as your wiring harness too.

my bad the nav setup was oem. i know what dead reckoning is when used with a compass and a map, but what is it when mentioned with the radio?

antenna's - i have setup my satellite antenna in my other car, but does the gps have to be on the outside of the car? if it does does anyone have a dual setup with sat. and gps, are the antennas next to each other? also when i ran my sat. ant. i pulled up the window bracket and ran it under there thru the trunk, how are your wires ran?

Factory nav antenna is under the dash cover.

The GPS unit can use accelerometers, a compass, and speed input from the car's computer to determine a position if it cannot receive GPS signal from the last known position where it was able to receive GPS signal.

GPS antenna does not have to be placed outside, but it would allow best reception because it has a better view of the sky. Personally, my GPS is my PDA cell phone using GPS software and a Bluetooth GPS receiver. This is not the service provided by phone company - rather it's software that I bought and installed on the phone. I put my GPS receiver at the bottom of the windshield and have never had reception issues. Some people have hidden the antennas under the rear speaker cover also without any issues.

Your sat radio antenna doesn't really have to sit outside either but again it provides better reception. I've seen people put the antennas inside without issue.
