5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My Wife and I went to the local Toyota dealer to test drive a Camry. The original ladie that we spoke to was off that day but another salesman helped us. When we said we wanted to test drive the car I told him we will not be ready for a few months because I wanted the FJ paid off. We never did get to test drive the car because it was not in his best interest. Come back when you're ready to buy was his attitude. Then we told him we were interested in Magnetic Grey SE V6 w/sunroof. He said that I have to choose from whats in the lot or other dealers inventory within so many miles. I asked if I could order what I wanted and wait while it was built he said no.
So, did anyone here order their Camry or did you pick from the lot not getting enough or too much of what you wanted?
go to another dealer, test drive what they have similar to what you want if they dont have it and then order it. Dont go to this one dealer, especially if they are treating you like this
When I went to test drive, I told them flat out that I was not ready to buy. They still let me test drive. Even though I told them I'm not ready, they tried to make me finance, even though I wanted to pay in full. I eventually went back 3-4 months later to finance.
After we test drove there, we went to another to find out price. Stupid lady wouldnt even help cuz we were buying within a week so no point in giving price. I dont care what price. If you're willing to help and give me a good price, I'll come back and negotiate or gives me an option to go back and see what new prices would be when I'm ready. Not helping me or giving me price gives me the OK not to go back when I am ready to buy.
As for car...if its 2009 model, whatever they have in lot, thats what they have. If its 2010 model, you might have to wait a while and you'll probably have to order.
We probally will go to that dealer but only if the one lady we spoke to is there. However there is a used car dealer up the road who gets Camrys three or six at every auction w/very little miles on them. I can save $5-$6k on a car that might be 08' or 09' with 10k-15k miles on it. At that price i'll sacrifice the leather or upgraded stereo. I bought the FJ new because i saw videos on YouTube of owners doing some serious fourwheeling (and i mean serious!). I did not want to be the chump buying that FJ that was molested like that.
if any of those Camrys is a 09 with 15k then it's been beat up maybe used at a rental company.
I rarely see Toyota or Honda as rental cars. I'll see a few Nissans here or there when I go on vacation. I do see a lot American cars like Ford, GM, Chevy, Chrysler. I was surprised to see Mazda when I went to rent a car in Orlando. Ended up taking the Mazda 6 for like $20 more. They were going to give me some small economy car that had crank windows and barebones in features
Also, the rental cars are 4 cyls. Rarely you see v6. These car rentals will buy whatever is cheapest, use it for 1 year and get new cars. No point in spending extra money for v6, power seats, etc. They'll just get basic car with automatic doors, windows, cd player.
I ordered a Magnetic grey manual 2010 SE amost two months ago. I have been talking with the sales manager at my dealership during the last couple of weeks and he keeps saying that Toyota USA is not "allocating" any 2010's to the Canadian market right now. He also told be that the Camry model is "not very popular anymore so they are not making as many of them"!
Told him I will wait one more week to see if he can get one then it is off to look for another company who wants to sell me a car!
No wonder Toyota lost almost $9 billion last quarter and are in danger of dropping out of first place as the top seller in the world.

HAHAHA...not as popular? More like backordered. Supply and demand.
I had to wait 1 month for my v6 Camry SE. Built on July 1st and I didnt get my car until end of July. Hybrids had a 3-6 month wait.
Whether its Toyota, Honda, Nissan, GM or any other car manufacturer, all car makers lost money. Its because of the economy and no one wanting to buy cars. Prius and Camry hybrids are the most sought after hybrids on the market. Why you think Chrysler/GM is pushing to get the Volt out on the market...so they dont go bankrupt.
for my 2009 SE v6 I had to wait 1 month because I ordered the blue ribbon with nav and sunroof and them the dealer wait another 3 weeks until i had my old corolla fix for the trade. my advice is go to another dealer and report that salesman
I had to order mine, some dealers told me they couldn't, while others were more then willing to. It took about 4-6 weeks for mine to arrive, since it wasn't a common combintation int he midwest, black on black w/ leather SE V6, without navigation.
