Gen6 O2 sensor failure

So I got back from the shop and they told me that my bank 2 O2 sensor has failed. The car has 4X,000mi. Do these go out this fast?

It's a bit unusual for it to die that early but it's certainly done enough miles. O2 sensors, unlike the other engine sensors do generally require periodic replacement to ensure they work efficiently (compared to the other sensors which can almost be expected to last the life of the car).

You have to make sure the failure isn't the result of engine running out of tune (eg, sending extra rich mixture into the converter, etc).

Oxygen sensors usually do not fail like that, but gradually degrade over 100K miles as wear items from sulfur and other contaminants in the fuel/oil. The new PZEV ones have to be good for 15yr/150K miles, IIRC.

Double check your emissions warranty, especially if it's a PZEV rated you'll get 15 years 150K miles. Otherwise it's SOL. I personally have not been a fan of Denso sensors. And at only 40K miles, your sensors really are too bad.

it is the V6.

I asked the tech about it and they said it's not covered under the emission's warranty. So I'll just have to replace the sensor myself.

Thats strange...my dealership said it is covered under the 80k emissions warranty. Good luck with the repair, I would call corporate to see if they can do anything for you. I am at 42,000 now and am hopeful I dont have to take the dealership up on that because as we all know, saying something and doing something are two different things.

I guessed it's a V6 before I even read your answer. Same thing happen to mine. It seem this is another flaw of our V6. And it's only this bank that go bad. Only cover in the 36K warranty (bumper to bummer warranty) I had to pay it out of pocket.
