want to add keyless entry to CE

My GF just got an '09 Camry CE and I want to install a Valet 712T keyless entry (CE has electric locks). I don't have access to the car for long periods so I'd like to figure out the access and wiring ahead of time to make for a quick install. It will be a simple install with one push unlocking and one push locking all doors. I'm not going to mess with the separate driver's side unlock with one push, and all others with 2nd push mode as in stock systems. So... can anyone here point me to the best place to find the following wires and places to make the connections and what color wires to look for there?

- unswitched power
- switched power
- lock
- unlock
- ground
- parking lights (for 712T flash output)
- dome light circuit (for 712T dome light supervision)

Also, is there anything funny about Toyota lock circuits like are they reverse polarity motors?

Thanks for any input!

Ray

all i can tell you is: its a pain in the rear, better off paying 100.00 to a trusty installer. see my website for my 300zx to get an idea. i will never do it my self again.

Sure, I could go try to find the manuals and research the wiring diagrams, then take the car apart and figure it all out, IOW reinvent the wheel... or someone here who has done it could take 3 minutes to write a couple sentences and save me a lot of time. That's what forums are for. Or are they just to get opinions on what wax or oil to use or what color to paint badges? ;-)

Finding a good installer isn't easy. I've seen some real hack jobs by "professionals". So I'd rather do it myself. I've done these before (never on a Toyota, tho) and they are not that difficult once one finds the right wires and good places to tap power.

I installed powered locks on my F-150 a few years back, man what a pain in the ass that was.

You can find power lock kits almost anywhere now days...it is going take you a couple hours at the minimum. As for the wiring colors and locations, service manual is your best bet.

Thanks for the manual link, Carlo. That'll help. I assume 07s are similar to 09s in this regard. Not sure when I'll get to this but it would be nice if someone else here already had some pics of this install for me to use!

BTW, for those who don't know, CEs have power locks, just not the wireless entry control and key fobs. So you don't have to install power lock motors and such.

Use the SEARCH function.

There have been a few strippers that have had keyless added to them....

Did that already. No help..... Mostly folks wondering why the one they had installed at a shop didn't work the trunk (it's mechanical, d'oh). You guys reflexively suggesting that anyone with a legit question use the search function like we're all noobs ought to search the topic yourselves first to see if there is any decent info. I couldn't find any. If you can, then share it.

From a quick look at the manuals...

1. lock ground pulse needs to go to violet wire, unlock ground pulse to green, both behind the driver's kick panel.
2. dome light +12v supervision needs to connect to white dome light feed in driver's side pillar.
3. parking/tail flash +12v output to pink or brown at juction box in driver's side cowl.

Sounds easy but actually finding these things at a place where access is reasonable can be challenging. The lock wires should be easy, not sure about the others until I get in there.... probably won't be any time soon. Maybe someone else can use the info I have provided here.

you can find the dome light wires / connections here:

New Style Door Sills

This is a DIY for lit door sills, but I used this thread to help wire my sill as well as my cathodes. This DIY was easier for me to do than the other one that is posted in the DIY section.

1.lock ground pulse needs to go to violet wire, unlock ground pulse to green, both behind the driver's kick panel.
Connector IE2 (pin15) Lock Violet [to ground] & connector IE2 (pin 7) Unlock Green [to ground] Located in the drivers kick panel.
2.dome light +12v supervision needs to connect to white dome light feed in driver's side pillar.

I couldn’t locate this connection from your description.
Try connector EN2 {page 66} (pin 13) Light Blue to ground.
Located in the drivers kick panel.

3.parking/tail flash +12v output to pink or brown at junction box in driver's side cowl.

If you apply power to that wire you will cause a +12 volt direct short to the chassis ground through pin 4 of the TAIL RELAY [its relaxed state], my advice DON’T DO IT……..

Instead connect a ground to the black wire on connector E7 pin (23) located on the main body ECU. [Hard to get to, behind relays, behind the coin box. Also located in the steering wheel column.] This connection is like you turned the stalk switch to “Tail” position.

Three of the four connections in the drivers kick panel, not bad.

I hope this helps…….

Thanks for the info, guys.

Luna, the 712T provides a high current relays (+ or -) to drive the dome and parking/tail circuits. I'll check the Camry schematic again but the point I was looking at would just supply 12v from the 712T relays in a parallel path to the positive side of the lights where the car relays apply +12v. The path from the car relays that send 12v should there just be open not ground I would think with the switches in the off position. But I'll double check before I do anything. Heck, I'll probably just connect the locks and maybe the dome lights in the kick panel and be done with it.

If you check the white wire for voltage I think it will already be there. The interior lights always have +12 volts applied, the lights are turned on by the applying a ground after the "load". I could have missed something, just let me know.

Will do. It may be a month or 2 before I have a chance to do this job but I'll try to remember to post results here.
