09 SE with new tires already cupping!! Toyota says no Bridgestones.
Guys,
I hope this hasnt been covered, i did do a search and didnt find information, especially about my situation.
I have the above car which is a company lease, currently has 42,000 miles. I replaced the original Toyos at 31000 miles. There was slight wear on the inside edges of the Toyos.
I replaced the tires with Bridgestone G019 Grids and had a 4 wheel alignment. The tires seemed noisy when i bought them, but, not really sure what to expect.
I have put about 11,000 miles on the car since they were replaced and just noticed the rears are cupped, seems worst in the rears. Highway travel is becoming unbearable due to the noise.
I took it back to the tire store, they don't think my lack of rotation would have caused such severe cupping so quickly. Now here is where it gets interesting: The store manager contacted a tech line with Toyota and they told him the tech group was told not to recommend Bridgestone/Firestones and that they also wont allow dealerships to put those manufacturers tires on the cars-referring to 08-09 Camrys. The manager contacted their Bridgestone "guy" and he was told they hadn't heard of this issue.
I have googled for any other complaints or directives from Toyota re Bridgestone/Firestone and havent seen anything.
What do you guys think would cause the cupping? I cant see how a car can be incompatible with a tire, but, maybe?
Has anyone else heard of any issues with BS and Toyota?
Any help you all might want to volunteer would be appreciated. My leasing company is not going to do anything until we figure out what is causing the unusual tire wear.
Thanks for your help,
Steve G

BS. Tired is a tire. The tire you got were probably faulty or old. When you buy a Camry, it comes with Bridgestones Turanza's. So I dont know why they said not to put Bridgestones/Firestone when they put it on there themselves when they sell you a car.
lol ^ i would ask same thing but he said its a company car so it's been going everywhere. i had the bridgestones on my 07 and i will agree 100% on the noise but the wear is very un usual.
I did get this car first thing in 08, in fact, the 09s just started coming out when mine was delivered. So, it's just a little over a year old.
I have to agree that it's Bridgestones fault, i've never had an issue like this on a car.
From what I'm reading; alignment, balance, or improper rotation, and worn suspension components are the main causes of this issue. Mind you, the car only had 32k on it when the tires were replaced. And we did a full 4 wheel alignment. Could the tire store have screwed up the alignment? I have the printed spec sheet they did with before and after the alignment.
What would you all do if you were in my shoes?
Thanks again,
Steve

...the Toyo T1R's I used to have where really great performance tires...while they lasted.... they only lasted 10k miles...if you make the math what these tires cost in terms of $/miles it's about the same what you pay for gas . I am usually a Toyo fan but really was dissappointed with that outcome.
the toyotas in my gray had like 20k or something like that and they looked line new still. haven't had any problems with them. the michelins though i think i like a bit more.
got a call tonight from tire store manager, they were working with my fleet manager. They agreed to replace the tires, i'm not sure yet who's paying for them.
It doesnt sound like Bridgestone or Toyota are stepping up to the plate, I also don't think the tire store is budging either.
If this isnt a warranty replacement from someone or if my company is paying for them, then I'm not gonna let them keep them and sell a little $.
The store did say they wanted it for a while to get it on the rack and make sure the alignment is on.
Can a bad alignment happen, I know I got a printout from the original alignment that says everything was within spec.
They are replacing the Bridgestones with Kumho Estas Platinums, seem to have a decent rating from Tirerack, so, we'll see how it goes.
Is there anything they should be looking for when they do the alignment?
Thanks again,
SteveG
