5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I went to pick up my new 2009 camry and noticed some odd behavior of the instrument cluster, specifically the warning lights. (I'm pretty sure I noticed this behavior during the first test drive, but was distracted by other things)
If I leave the ignition key in the position right before actually staring the car, all the lights come and, then turn off except the oil, battery and check engine light, I sat there waiting a few minutes, but they're still turned on.
They only go away after I actually turn on the engine.
The salesman said, all the new toyota's have this behavior, he demonstrated the same behavior on a 4Runner. But being the skeptic, I checked with a different dealer and he observed the same behavior.
I've tried searching the forums, but couldn't find an answer.
Can anybody with a 2009 camry or other toyota model confirm this odd behavior?
Got a hold of the manual and it says: They (the warning lights) will turn off after the engine is started OR after a few seconds. They may be a malfunction in a system if a light does not come on, or if the lights do not turn off...
So it sounds like should should turn off after the engine has been started OR after a few seconds.
Seriously. Why would someone waste so much time on a normal condition when simply reading the manual that's already in the car would have answered the question?
It's normal, just as the manual states.
