5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I bought this car in March 09. The dealer I purchased from traded to get it and as it turned out, it had sat on the other dealers lot for about 9 months (since May of 08). Before they went and got it, I found out it had 60 test drive miles on it and when I took delivery it had 120. The additional 60 miles was the distance between dealerships. My question concerns whether or not I should have the oil changed at this point due to the age of the oil in the engine. As of this month, technically that oil is one year old now. I understand its best to change oil in a brand new car around 1000-1500 miles anyway to get rid of possible metal fragments, etc. from the new engine breaking in. I have two dealerships close by. One offers QUAKER STATE Bulk oil and the other MOBIL bulk oil. Which of these oils would the V6 benefit from or is best for since this will be the first oil change??
I've read several of the threads regarding oil changes etc. but did not find anything specifically regarding this issue. I apologize if I missed it. In the two months I've had it, the Camry now has 1400 around the city miles on it and I'm just before taking a 500 mile round trip. Should I have the oil changed now or just wait till 3k ticks by?
I would very much appreciate any advice you guys have! And again, sorry if I missed this topic covered in another thread.
Doesnt hurt to change. Only thing is a couple bucks to have someone change the oil for you. Better to change it than leave it and have the potential of ruining your engine.
I'll be the contrarian and say save your money and don't change. The oil sat for several months. So what. The oil you buy off the shelf may have sat for a year or more. It isn't going to hurt the engine if it sits. Old oil, maybe, but this was new and fresh and without acid buildup. Worry about other things, but forget the motor oil.

Have the dealer give you a free oil change. You just spent how much on the car? $29.99 at least that is what my dealer charges isn't going to break either one of you but they owe you that much.
Change the oil (yourself) keep the filter in, it hasn't begun to do its job. The oild has to dael with the air and humidity in the air while it was on (likely) short test drives that never boiled of the combustion produced water from the crankcase.
Alright..to put an end to this debacle I took it back to the dealer where I bought it and they changed the oil. And yes it was free because I bought it there. They used Mobil coventional bulk oil. I'll just continue to take it back and let them do it and later they told me they would change to Mobil synthetic if I wanted. I prefer to do my own oil changes that way you know its done right but not the first time. I've heard about Robocop at the factory and oil filter. Atleast now I dont have to worry about it. It amazing what you'll start dwelling on if you let it! But one dealer says one thing, you're buddy tells you something else, your experience says one thing and then you get on something like this and read and then get really good and confused!
Thanks to all of you that responded..thats what I needed just a slap on the head to clear my mind..kinda like Gibbs does Denozzo on NCIS! HA love that show!
Now lets go have some fun and see what that Warp Drive will do!

Its all a matter of opinion. Thats where people or the OP gets confused. One person says one thing, another person says another and you dont know which to do. In the end, its the owner that decides what they should do. You make the final decision.
