5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I know this is a crazy time of year for this. But the 6.5 I have has 17 rims. I want to buy maybe 16 or even 15 (if they will fit) rims for winter. What ideas and feedback can you give? An for all you in the snow belt any suggestions on tires (winter) and sizes.
I plan on buying steel rims. Nothing fancy. Cheap as possible.
Thanks in advance.
Oh and my reason is simple. Wrong time of year for winter tires can often give great prices.
I want to go steel. I live in Quebec lots of snow and slush.
Oh and it is the i4 se. Also no insult intended but you experience as a collective will give me much more than the standard Toyota stuff. Yes it was engineered but it was also kept dull and safe.
Happy driving

I think this is a closed deal thanks both. Will be hunting down some new x tires and cheap rims. Maybe some cheap covers but on our roads they will go fast in winter.
Remember, the thinner the wheel/tire the better for snow.
You would want a narrower wheel to "cut" between the snow oppose to a wider wheel that will stay above the snow similar to snow shoes. (greater surface area)

Agree 100% it is the reason I actually am wondering on the 15" as well (higher rubber). Got a feeling they might rub on the brakes though. An I am not a fast driver so Thinner is just fine with me.
An on loosing the hub caps yeah as I said, maybe get them but I doubt it.
Also when I asked Toyota about rims they wanted 3 times the price of Club Price/ Costco or Canadian tire. But thanks for the suggestion.
An the car came with Mich all season may as well stick the same make winters.
Our Canadian tire (a large Canadian store) has some steel wheels that looks like mags. Might look at buying them only about 100 each.
I tried for 15's on my SE but they hit the rear disc brake calipers..
I got mine from Toyota (2 sets, one for the Camry another for the Matrix) for 600 and change each, with lifetime swapping...they'll change them over every fall/spring
The wheels from Can Tire are multifit - so the center hole is much larger than your hub.
I usually look to Kijiji for oem steel wheels that are for sale or you can go to a tire shop and ask for hub centric wheel rims.
yeah hit up kijiji or craigslist for rims. Im sure you could even find alloys for cheap. Or even hit up the junk yard, they have tons of steelies they would love to get rid of.
