MPG Display error

I just purchased a 06 Solara SLE convertible in March. The MPG display consistently shows 30% higher miles per gallon than I am actually getting by calculating actual usage at fill-ups. 34 displayed and 25 actual usage. I always reset the display after each re-fill. The car is not leaking fuel. The dealer service department has no suggestions. Does any one have any ideas on how to correct the display? The instant mpg display also reads high. The display in our 05 Sienna is accurate within 5%.

Gen6

I can tell you how my '07 works. My Mpg reading has averaged 6% over the actual mpg average over the last 37,000 miles.

The displayed reading is computed from the #1 injector and the miles driven.

You could have a bad combination meter/ECM, a problem with your injectors or fuel pressure.

Thanks for the info. I did not know that it reads only the #1 injector. I wouldn't think the fuel pressure could be that high, or it would run rich in the open loop mode during warm-up. I'll check it when i get a chance. I may try swapping a couple of the injectors to see if it changes the error. My BMW bike has a correction factor that can entered to adjust the mpg readout. I was hoping that Toyota had that also The display is closer to reading kilometers per gallon than miles per gallon.

Weird, I once made the meter on my mom's 04 Sienna say 36 MPG. When I went to fill up, it turns out I only did 29, so suffice to say I don't rely on it.
