5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My 09 Camery LE V6 came with Bridgestone Turanza EL400 ties and the front ones are almost worn out after only 13,000 miles. To their (and the cars) credit they did wear perfectly flat with no cupping or uneven edges but I still think they should have lasted longer then that. The back ones look OK.
So... I think I'll replace them with Yokohama YK520 tires like I did on my 07 (same model camry).
Question, do you think I should replace all 4 or just the front ones ?
what are the rears like? ... are you even rotating your tires?
The rear tires look good, only about 10% wear as expected, the front ones are down about 75% or more. I don't rotate tires and there are too many reasons to cover here why I don't. In this case if I had rotated them I would have 4 worn out tires instead of just 2. The back doesn't seem to wear out tires, even bad tires like these.
I didn't rotate the Michelin tires on my 07 and in 50,000 miles all 4 were still good and the fronts were only slightly more worn then the rear ones. So there is something about these Bridgestone tires that is not good. The customer reviews on the Discount Tire web site (and others) reflect the same experiance.
I was just wondering if all 4 tires should match or if it's OK to have one brand/model on the front and a different one on the back. I'd like to only buy 2 tires unless there is a good reason to get all 4.
My tires are a little over 13,000 miles and they dont seem to be worn down or balding at all. I havent rotated the tires either. I did get a screw in the front passenger tire on my way to Hershey, PA. Luckily, the stupid nav took me to a side street, making me go in a huge ass circle when I could of simply went straight to where I needed to go. But on that side street, there was a tire shop that took out the screw and plugged it. I can see another 15,000-20,000 before I get new tires.
Replace them with Michelin HydoEdge. Wear rating of 800. 90k mile tread warranty. Ever so slightly tougher ride but these things must be stiff to wear that long. Put 35 psi in them. Last set of tires you may buy for your car.

What brand and model tires are they ? Are they the ones that came on the car ?
I'd stay away from Bridgestone/Firestone. Don't know about Yokohamas, but agree you should look at Michelin HydroEdge if T-rated (last I check some while ago). On H-rated you can check out Michelin Primacy MXV4 with 600 tread wear rating.

I'm going to put 2 Michelins on the front and see how it goes.

Just want to remind you usually it is better to replace with same tires if you just want to replace 2 worn out tires.
But anyway. new tire should put on rear.
Please check information on tirerack.com.
After look at the video, i would never put new tire on the front.
I've got 21,000 on my Bridgestones and they have an awful roar to them. Seemed kinda bad so I had them rotated. The roaring got much worse so I rotated them back like they were. May go be a Bridgestone dealer and let them take a look at them. Will end up replacing them at some point soon cause the roaring is driving me nuts.
I had my wives Turanza's rotated every 5k. With 20k miles on them they are at 5/32 tread, they come with 12/32. I don't have anything bad to say about them but I think for what they run, you should be able to get more than 20k out of them.

I'll add that to my already huge list of reasons not to rotate tires...
why stay away from bridgestone? i happen to be a big big big re960as fan and i can honestly say in whatever category you place them in they will outshine any michelin all season...
i dont care about tread as long as they last me 40k miles or so... i care more about the performance and safety i get and peace of mind...
spend an extra dollar here and it could make the difference in that time you might need to stop a little to fast
