Custom Apexi WS2 Exhaust Catback on Gen6 V6 (Picture intentsive)
So, after my first try with a custom exhaust system with the Tanabe Medallion Touring from an IS250/350 onto my Gen6, which was just essentially welding the axlebacks onto the stock piping, which kept the stock steel piping and resonator as well. That system wasn't quite as loud as I wanted, it was very quiet.
So I tried my hand into looking for other catback systems, which is almost next to none for the Gen6 applications. I decided to pick up two Apexi WS2 mufflers, which were 2.25", I purposely chose 2.25" over 2.5" because I'm running a dual exhaust system, that way it can build a bit more pressure and match stock circulation.
With the two mufflers in hand, I had a muffler shop do a complete custom system, deleteing resonator and running all new stainless steel piping back from the cat. Which made me a custom catback system. The stock resonator is very large, so removing it did increase flow, but increased noise too.
Overall impressions, is that its still not even that loud, it's definitely meaner and sounds better then the Tanabe's though. I am looking into possibly running a high-flo cat, or even a test pipe to replace the other cat that's underneath the car. There's a bit of droning by removing the stock resonator, but that's only at around 2k rpm, and with the music just slightly up, you can barely hear it. The car sounds great at higher rpms and full thorttle, matched with my K&N short ram.
Next up is looking at a shop that does custom headers, I may have then creating custom headers for the 2GR-FE engine, which will eventually have me deleting all the cats in the car.
I believe this is the cat I'm looking to run high-flo or test pipe:
Stock resonator:
I'm still selling my Tanabe mufflers that I just cut off too.

Typically only shops that do turbo or header work would do mandrel bends for you, and charge much more for that as well. I knew well that they would do crush bends at this shop. I'm not running any type of forced induction nor nitrous, so as for a naturally aspirated engine, I would say that even crush bends with an aftermarket exhaust system should yield more gains then the OEM mufflers would.
The only other alternative then to having a shop do the mandrel bends, is to purchase a true catback from a branded manufacturer, ie TRD or Borla.
Costs for work like this can vary depending on location and what kinda shop you go to. I was able to obtain the two mufflers from a local performance shop at a fantastic price, while they retail for around $200 each for the Apexi WS2. The piping and labor for installation can vary, mine was around $400. If your able to obtain mandrel bent and complete stainless steel piping, AND purchase two branded mufflers, then you would have yourself a true catback system. Otherwise, manufacturers such as Tanabe or HKS charges around $600 or so for a catback system for the IS350.
I'll post a sound clip up later also, after all, this is still a Camry in the end, if it was a vehicle that has more of an aim towards pure performance, such as Lancer or Impreza, then that may be a different story. But thanks much for the pictures to point it out for further references.

My exhaust shop said crush bends do not matter in NA versions.. Darksparkz is right. But in turbo apps, its ideal to go mandrel. And yes, shops that do true mandrel are few.. very few.
