^ I wouldn't buy another new Camry based on personal experience. I definitely wouldn't buy a new model Kia. You think some Camry owners have problems, wait till a year or two after the K5 debuts, if it takes that long.

Yeah, that's the next gen Optima. It looks freaking awesome.

But, it's going to share the same engine and tranny as the Sonata, and therefore probably have the fuel-cut-off and gear-down-at-every-stop issue.

Not sure about Kia quality, but my 2002 Hyundai Elantra has been the most reliable car I've ever owned -- including modern Hondas too. I've beat the living daylights out of my car and spent less than $200 in repairs the entire life of it. Of course, Hyundai owns Kia, so I would think the reliability would be decent, especially with the newer products, but who knows.

That's the price you sometimes have to pay if you want an over 3000 pd vehicle to have 0-60 in less than 10 secs without using a lot of fuel

It's caused by the Liberal tree huggers and the ever higher CAFE fuel usage standards and it's going to get worse....safety, performance and comfort will suffer, at a higher and higher consumer cost.

Kia is a minority owner of KIA (about 36% now).

The Hyundai Motors Group is 2nd only to Toyota in Asia and is the 4th largest manufacturer in the world.

They are up and coming...Toyota has peaked.

in keeping with the original question about the transmission, i bought my 2010 camry in may of this year. it was built in sept of last.

right now, i have 2,000 miles on it and i can say i don't have ANY problems with the transmission. i noticed where this thread started around june/july of last year. maybe there were some changes, perhaps in the computer after many of you bought your cars...??

it does down shift at times when i go to slow down,and that was unusual for me to understand, but it works great, as its saving me some brake lining.

it up shifts flawlessly too, and only once in a while do i use the manual shift mode.

so why i am not having any problems and some of you are, maybe its in the computer that needs to be "tweaked".?

I would not doubt it. There is a need to save fuel and be less dependent on foreign oil

2011 transmission down shifting like brakes on

I got a new 2011 Camry in April and imediately I noticed something wrong with the transmission. I drove a 2010 about 6 months ago for two weeks and didn't notice it. This 2011 transmission is a piece of junk. It feels like the brakes are on when you slow down and then it releases when you drop to 1st gear and you surge forward. A good way to rear end someone.

Dealers are no help with this problem. I know they know it's a problem but they just act like they've never heard of it. No problem found they say. Yeah, right.

To all of you, call Toyota at 1-800-331-4331, and open a problem report if you're having this issue with your transmission in your 2010 or 2011. They'll give you a case number. Lets make Toyota will do a recall and fix this crapie transmission. It's a real nusiance to drive at low speeds, shifting back and forth, feeling like your standing on the brakes, and jerking when you press the gas again. I wish I had never bought it.

Abstract
