5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I just bought a black Camry V6 SE two weeks ago. I think it looks very sweet and has very good pickup. I have a few "issues" however.
NOTE: This car was a showroom car.
1. Steering is stiff turning to the left of center but very loose to the right for about 10-15 degrees. The car seems to "turn" and respond to the input (not really steering wheel play) but the feel of the steering is quite strange if it is really easy to turn the wheel right but stiff to the left. Could it be that this car was dry steered in the showroom one too many times? What do you think this could be? Because of this, finding the "straight" center when cruising on a highway is difficult if not impossible due to the stiff left soft right characteristic of the steering wheel. Anyone run into this problem?
2. Whistling noise. It seems to come at random and is immediately noticable when i start the car. Sometimes it is there and other times it is not.(one time I start it could be there, another time it might not be) (the most recent time this occurred, the car was comming from a cold start) The noise changes pitch when pressing the gas pedal. Enabling or disabling the A/C or fan doesnt seem to affect the noise. The noise stays i believe for the duration that the engine is on.
I have only put about 200 miles on the car and other than the two issues above I am fairly happy with the purchase. The car looks great and it really goes if you ever feel like going past 3k rpm. The torque is monstrous.
My last question is, I have some sticky greasy/waxy substance on the top edges of my window. Is there some sort of special window cleaner I should use? I tried just water but it seems that stuff is pretty sticky. Should i use Goo Gone?

Mods: Borla Dual Exhaust with no resonator, K&N Intake, 5k HID headlights and 5k HID foglights, LED Tail lights, Complete interior leds, Ultra Racing Front Strut Bar, Ultra Racing 19mm rear sway bar, 20% tint, Rosen navigation system, 19 inch ASA GT1 wheels
Use GooGone to remove the sticky residue. As for the other two problems, people sitting in the car in the showroom cant turn the wheel if there is no key. Did you not test drive it before you drove it off the lot? Take it back to the dealers.
Welcome to TN, and congrats on the new car.And like dcemureviews said take it to the dealer and see what they'll say.For the sticky residue....I cleaned it like 10 times and it comes back every time, so I just ignore it now.
Actually now that I drove it again, it just feels like turning the wheel left is stiffer than turning the wheel right in general from center to lock. It is slightly stiffer which is "a bit" annoying but it should smooth out? I drove the car for the 200 miles but with the air pressure in the tires was off (the car was pulling to the right). I took it back for an alignment since I didnt know at the time but they said the alignment was fine and the air pressure was off on some of the tires. I'm guessing it could just be the new tires causing the stiffness?
As for that whistling noise, this morning from a cold start, it didnt make the noise .... I'm hoping its just the belts that need to be worked in (run for awhile).
I was thinking of getting a pair of 18" rims, coilovers, exhaust but it seems a bit expensive. Does a new set of 18" + coilovers improve road feel even more? I can already tell the SE vs non SE is a "bit" more stiff but still comfortable.
If you guys do make these mods, what do you do with the old parts? Sell them?

Dont quote me but I think coilovers give a stiffer ride. Those who know more about it will tell you.
As for the stock OEM parts, it depending on the parts, how much space you have to store the parts or your financial. I sold my headlights and trying to sell my taillights. Changed all my bulbs to LED. So all those bulbs I will hold onto since I can either use it again or use it on another car. Not to mention, you cant make money off of it. I dont have room so I need to sell it plus I need money to help pay for wedding (doesnt seem to work cuz I buy more stuff...SHHHHHH dont tell the fiancee although she somehow knows .
So what do you guys think about some Brembos? I think it would look really hot with some 19"+ rims and red ceramic brembos but most likely that would be very expensive. I think I might start to save up for an M3 sedan instead.
I might have to skip any upgrades until I own the car.

Pointless of getting Brembos. Just paint your calipers red.
i mean if you dont want to go all out i would atleast change out the wheels i know they are nice wheels on there right now but they stick out way to much on an all black car, you need some black rims, you can find some cheap just look around you dont have to go all out
