RX AFS Retrofit Progress(56K no no!)*new pics on 2nd pg. 6/17/09*

Well i finally found some time to take some pics and make a thread for my retrofit. its not finished but i know a few of you wanted to see some pics. well there have been many bumps on this road. i had to get a new cut off shield overnighted and im trying to get some new bowls overnighted to me now also. the pics have not been reduced bc i didn't have the time and also the bigger the better in this case so that all details can be shown.

first ill start by explaining how i got the spare headlights apart. i put them in the oven for 220 degrees for 10 minutes then took a plastic pryer and began prying at the reflector end. you just need to push it in as much as u can and start seperating. once you get a gap going then u can use your hands to start seperating the whole light. ull need the pry to help u along the way but it shouldn't be too difficult to do. the 2nd headlight took 15 minutes including backing time to get apart. the first... well lets not even go there. was over 1.5 hrs bc 200 degrees wasn't cutting it.

first pic is of everything apart and sitting on my bed:

next 2 are of the first half including the shroud:

as u can see in this pic, the first snag i hit is i broke those white clips/adjusters on the 1 headlight:

here is the reflector and projector half just sitting on top of the back half since i didnt screw it in yet bc don't have new clips:

next is how the projector sits in the 2nd headlight that has no broken clips or anything. this is just the front half as the bowls are all messed up. u can see my paper tracer for how the custom mounts/brackets will look like if i ever get to making them. instead i traced this over the original camry brackets and cut those. i just have paper still there bc the original bracket only has room for 1 of the rx screws. i was thinking of cuting a hole on the other side but the sandwiching of the bracket between the 2 halves of rx projector is plenty. :

here is a more zoomed out picture:

here is a picture of the same projector but from the back of the headlight. stock shield is still inside. im keeping the custom one in the original box where no one can brake it. will put it in as the last step:

this pic is mostly for glenn. this is the paper stencil i have for my custom bracket and how the original camry one was cut so that it can be sandwiched inside the rx projectors:

u seen them many times but here they are again. original camry projectors:

heres a pic showcasing my broken bowls(and the broken pieces), one of the rx front projector halves and the metal piece that was on top of the camry projectors/covered them up:

here is a better picture of that front rx half with no cut off shield(bc i removed the broken custom one that i spent like a hour trying to get perfectly mounted in there):

here is the half with the stencil on :

close up of one of the broken bowls:

close up of bowl 2:

broken pieces:

comparison(quality sucks though) of original shield and custom one(the not broken one):

comparison of broken custom shield and whole one(even worse quality hehe):

harness, bulbs, ballasts, and ballast covers sitting under my desk:

if u need any other pics then let me know. i hope to get my replacement custom shield today and hoepfully i can get some bowls overnighted to me. if all goes well then by sunday i should be all done and will have some cutoff pics and pics of the final results. i know pics arent best quality but camera's macro sucked and its a older camera. also didnt have time to find a better spot with more lighting to make pics. thanx for looking.

Thanks for the pics, I working on a RX330 retrofit too. Here is my progress so far.
Thanks to LnGasman who has done this retrofit and has sent me about 2 dozen pictures of
his retrofit to help me. He has been a big help. Here is a pic of the trimmed stock shield.

Here is a pic of the projector mounted to the bracket.

I broke both bowls and broke both white rotational things. LnGasman a member here sent me 2
of these rotational things from SanDiego, Ca. He is a great guy and a great help, as you can see the rotation is
off but I am working on that. Now its a matter of measuring and adjusting to get the correct
cutoff line etc.

Glenn

No, all I see is just text, no pics at all. Maybe it's my comp? But I can see the other pics, just not the ones in your 1st post.

I can see Glenn1234's pics.

Pawel,
LNGasman sent me the 2 white things. Not any bowls, I should have been more clear on that. Since I could not locate any bowls on HIDPLANET. I put in a bid for another set of RX330'S on ebay. As of now I am the top bidder
at 61.00 dollars. If I win I'll paypal the guy tonight and should have them early next week. As of now I am making sure all of my cuts and measurements are correct, and I am painting my shrouds as I wait for the
new projectors to arrive.

I just scored a nice pair of RX330 AFS with clear lenses off ebay for $75.00.
I lost the bid on the other pair but the price jumped from $40.00 to $107.50
By the time I got home from work so I said the heck with that and did a search on ebay motors and someone had a pair for buy it now for 75.00
so I jumped on them. I am going to paint my shrouds black chrome, I got the paint from a hobby store so I can keep my lights SE looking. I am not sure what the part number is off of the white adjusters but maybe someone from here or hidplanet would know.

Glenn

I only have a spare non-AFS bowl. Sorry. I too broke an AFS bowl, but it can be JB Welded back together.

Glenn, just an FYI, those AFS projectors don't come OEM with clear lenses, when you get them, look closely they are actually frosted lenses. They will make the cut-off line fuzzy. Stick with the TSX-R lenses from RS and you'll be happy.

Ha! I was watching those on ebay, too. I just couldn't justify another set of RX projectors... That was a good price.

I'll post some pics of my disassembled RX-AFS retrofit project for reference on TN.

Here are some pics from my RX-AFS retrofit, formerly my D4S retrofit. These headlights are apart right now, so let me know if you need more pics.

These are the cuts I had to do to the housing chrome bracket:

These are the lenses that the RX-AFS Projectors will come stock with:

Poka-dot Style:

Frosted (semi-clear) Style: Sometimes people refer to these as clear, but they're not.

Clear replacement lenses: E30 and TSX. E30 will need the lip ground down and TSX should drop right in. E30 drops right in on the non-AFS RX projectors.

E30 Clear Lens:
