Hello friends, my check engine light came on this morning. Apparently there is a problem with my vehicle speed sensor (VSS) that seems to be a part from the dealer.
All i know about it is that is located on the transmission somewhere. Don't know exactly where. Could someone briefly explain where it is located and or how to replace the part?
It might be on one of the manuals but i checked the transmission and engine manuals and didn't find what i was hoping for.
Also... what are my other alternatives? reseting the ECU and see if the check engine light comes back again? Any ideas what could have caused this? the car is just an 07 with 20k miles on it. No Warranty.

When was the car purchased? If its not too far out of warranty by the time, Ask the dealer to goodwill the repair.

VSS sensor is not a powertrain covered component. It is only covered by the 3yr/36k mile bumper to bumper warranty.

Im not sure if i have the same error code... but my VSS has already been replaced a few times... is this sensor that sensitive?
1. At around 35k-40K I bought two new tires (which were slightly smaller 215/45/17) the rear had 215/50/17. I HAD to drive this way for about a week (less than 500miles). Now i figured the light went on b/c of the difference in speed in the rear vs. the front (i.e. smaller is technically spinning slightly faster). But it never went off after all 4 tires were identically paired. The senor was not replaced until.....
2. at 45,000 my transmission failed miserably... I'm talking commuting to work in NYC during the 1st month of a brand new high paying job. On this particular morning... after about 15 mins of driving... it felt like i accidentally shifted into neutral... only to find out it was in drive... and 3k-5k rpm revs and i was not moving faster than 25mph... eventuallly i creeped on to the exit and side road... where it completely died... not moving at all... transmission fluid all over the floor. When i got the car back (with a new transmission by warantee) it was easy to have them include this into the repair...
3. No VSS issues until 60K when I had a car accident that bent my lower control arms and knucle and strut. After those are all replaced... and the car is driving like new again.... I decide to buy my baby new tires (here we go...) this time i made SURE to buy the same side all around... however... they had to reposition my car while putting the wheels on.. which means the car had one brand new tire on the right front and the old one on left front. (now even if there is a slight difference on the overall size of the tire -- a worn one vs a brand new one -- shouldn't this just trigger the system? shouldn't it think its skidding or something?" not make all the lights go on? In the less than 1 minute the car was on and it was barely driven around the block... YOU GUESSED IT... VSC/TRAC/CHECK ENGINE lights are all on. WHAT GIVES?
I'm sure this will be covered by extended or auto insurance... but what happens when the car is out off warantee? Even most 3rd party extended warantee's do not cover VSS. DO i just have the luck of the draw or wut?
