5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hi, first post for me on this forum. I just bought my wife a 2005 Camry LE w/ 2.4L, 21k miles, in perfect condition. I got it from an estate executor in Florida (God's waiting room). The car is being shipped to my home in NC next week.
Anyway, the stereo is the single CD unit and my wife wants to add Sirius. I searched pretty thoroughly and found 3 options.
1). Pull the HU, add a JBL HU, amp, new speakers and Sirius receiver/ant.
Question: Does the LE without the JBL system option have the wiring harness to support adding the JBL system?
Also, I would want a newer one (07-09) since the Gen 5 ones are at least 5 yrs old now. But the 07-09 HU's seem to have an extra connector on the back and I am not sure they will connect to the body harness of my Camry.
Cost $400-500
2). Buy the Vias Technology SL2s unit, Sirius reciever/ant, new speakers and keep my stock unit.
Question: Can anyone tell me who the manufacturer(s) of the stock unit is and what the rated power output per channel (RMS)?
Cost $400-500
3). Rip the whole system out, go after market, add the PAC steering wheel adapter, and a sub.
The pac adapter causes the "info" button to quit working. Question: Is this button on the LE model?
Cost: $1000-1200
I would prefer to go with option 1 or 2 due to cost, but may have to go with 3. Any answers, thoughts, corrections would be appreciated.
Thanks,

no, you would have to also order and install the appropriate JBL harnesses.

i'm pretty sure the shape of the gen 6 camry radio face are not compatible with the gen 5s

Fujitsu Ten... i don't know the rated power. Fujitsu Ten also makes the Eclipse headunits which are a good option for an after market headunit.

The info button is not present on the LE model. I would suggest getting an Eclipse radio... since they are from the same manufacturer that makes the OEM radios, steering wheel controls and all harnesses are plug and play on camry's that are non-JBL from the factory. You will not need a PAC steering wheel adapter. I myself have gone this route, though i have not replaced anything other than the head unit.

Thanks for the info. Not sure which way I will go on the aftermarket unit. I have an alpine in my Z and an Eclipse in my Celica. I find both have lousy ergonomics, but great sound. The most annoying feature of my Eclipse is that the HU will not show the song and artist together. Also, it reverts back to showing "Eclipse" in the text bar after a few seconds. My Alpine shows both artist and song as an option, but has the dumbest setup for the equalizer.
I will probably stick to one of those two brands.
Were you saying the Eclipse does not require the Pac steering wheel control adapter?

yes, Eclipse will not require the Pac steering wheel control adapter. I took my stock headunit.... plugged in the Eclipse, and everything worked like stock but even better.

Awesome, I think I am going with the Eclipse CD5030 unit. The reviews are very good all over and it supports bluetooth. I am just trying to verify my wife's phone works with the unit...
System should be:
Eclipse - CD5030
Front Door - Alpine SPS-500
Rear Deck - Alpine SPR-69C
Sub - Bazooka - BT8100
Sirius adapter/ant
Once I can verify the phone, I will hit the purchase button...
Round 2 here. I bought the Eclipse CD5030, however it has probably the worst wiring diagram I have ever seen. The Toyota connector for the steering wheel controls has 3 wires, pin 6 is grounded (according to Crutchfield), Pin 7 is steering wheel 1 and pin 8 is steering wheel 2. I will connect pin 6 to ground (black on the harness), no problem. But, the wiring diagram only shows brown and brown/black (to steering wheel controls) with no mention of which one is steering wheel 1 and which is steering wheel 2.
This is pretty frustrating, I am almost done with the install and I can't hook up the remote steering wheel controls.
Does anyone know which is steering wheel 1 and which is steering wheel 2?
This is the final update. I found the wiring and pinout for the 20 pin 05 Toyota Camry Steering Wheel connector.
There are only 3 wires in this connector.
Pin 6 is Ground - Connect to ground on the Eclipse black wire on the power connector.
Pin 7 is Steering Wheel 1 - Connect to the Brown/Black wire on the Eclipse Power connector.
Pin 9 is Steering Wheel 2 - Connect to the Brown wire on the Eclips Power connector.
The orientation of the plug is to view the end that plugs into the radio. The wires will be on the bottom and Pin 6 will be the left most wire.
