2006rear Brake lights/not dash/remain on

Please help me. My brake lights remain on for my 2006 Toyo Camry. I had to get a jump and take to gas station. Mechanic called today said he had to order a switch and the whole thing will cost 150.00 I am brand new to ToyoNation trying to save money. Thanks for being here, single mom feel like I just do not know the questions to ask. PS What generation is my car?

Advance/NAPA/Autozone should have these brake switch for under $20. Your vehicle will fall under Gen 5/5.5

Also, check your brake fluid level. Driver's side near the back wall (firewall), If you are low on fluid DOT 3 brake fluid is what you will need to top it off. Good luck!

I had a similar problem with my 93 rolla, but the brake lights only stayed on when the car was running. I changed the brake switch as well with no result. I finally just pulled of the tail lights, took a look at the bulbs and noticed that one of the brake light bulbs contacts had melted which caused the negative and positive contacts to continually touch each other. As soon as I cleaned the area and replaced the bulb everything was fine.

I'm not sure if this is your problem but it doesn't hurt to inspect your bulbs and housing.

Yeah, probably a sticking brake switch. It's under the console near the pivot of the brake pedal arm (leg? ). If you disconnect the connector and the light goes off without stepping on the brakes then you know.

Here is what the $21+shipping brake switch looks like:
