Hey i did a search about this but couldnt find anything specific to what im going to ask if there is a post could u post the link and if theres not id like to know how much the dealership charges to do brakes on a gen 6 and also do they have ceramic brake pads instead of the stock oem ones and if not can i buy my own and have them install them for me and how much would that cost to?
You could look up how many hours it would take in a chiltons or the like. Take that times the shop labor rate. That should give you a good Idea. I do the bring your own parts thing all the time. I don't see how they could bi**h about it if it met the warranty requirements. As for the ceramic pads Do a google or any parts vendor site should have a tech section and check out what you want to do with your car. Brake pads can be very application specific, racing type etc.

i have quotes and stuff from many mechanics and shops around the area around 40-80 bucks to change the brakes if i supply my own but my dad insists i go to the dealership.. and i dont kno what there hourly fees are and ive went to the autoshops around my area and found a few brands of ceramic brakes im not sure wich brand to use i just want somthing of good quality and easy to find resonable price and as fo aplications daily driving with acasionaly speeding..? haha
oh yeah i forgot to mention would it be bad to get brakes that are over rated for that car like if it has a 200hp braking recommendation and since i have the four banger its around 120-150 would that be a waste to get or would that help my stopping
a) Every dealer will charge differently for the same work, so ask your local dealer instead of us, unless you want us to come over and do the job.
b) Do the brake job in your driveway. This is not rocket science.
c) Take the average bid from three different mechanics and have the guy do the work for you.
d) Stand there and watch in any event, and kick yourself for not knowing enough about your car to do this simple work yourself.
e) Try not to reengineer the vehicle's brake system. Toyota engineers actually were paid real money to do it for you.

Most of us do our own. But from what I heard dealer charges about $250 per axle that includes unnecessarily turning the rotors, to true it and in our view to make it less able to resist heat so it can warp more easily. See:
But get good pads, like Akebono ProAct ceramic (FF friction rating). About $50+shipping per axle, rockauto.com. I heard OEM uses a cheaper EE friction version of Akebono. Just go to the dealer and ask to see the pads. See if you find "AK xxx-xxx EE" printed on the back.
Another owner recently had front pads/rotors plus rear pads replaced for $70 labor. Good deal.

There is nothing touchy at all about brakes. This is easy stuff. Really. So, if your dad is paying the bills, fine, he can have it done at the dealer. If it is your car then do whatever you want to do with it. Sheesh. Grow a pair if you are old enough.

No pissin' match here--just basic assistance for someone. If your dad wants the job done at the dealer, do so, and send him the bill. Otherwise do it yourself, or get it done elsewhere at a lower price. Dealer pricing will almost always be higher than anyone else. If you want to know how much the dealer will charge, ask them. Don't ask us. We charge more than the dealer. If the tools are laid out, almost anyone reading this could do the job blindfolded on a moonless night. Really. If you think this isn't good advice, sorry about that. Save it and read it again in five years.

Just because its the dealer, doesnt mean it will be done right either. Its the person working on the car and how their work ethic is.
I took my fiancee's car to get oil change and told them 4 times.."DO NOT REPLACE AIR FILTER" because I have K&N's permanent air filter. Get the invoice and what do I see? "Air Filter Replacement". Open up the air filter box and low and behold, they took my K&N out, put their OEM in and threw my K&N in the garbage.
Like gdanher said, if you want pricing, go to the dealership and ask. I've gotten different pricing on parts and services.
You can bring your own brakes and have them do it but you'll probably be charged the same price. Some places wont touch other brand brakes. It all depends on the dealers guidelines and how they want to handle things. They can put your own brakes on but if anything is wrong, they wont replace it or be held responsible for any problems.

do you not understand... i know it is not hard to change the brakes i work on cars with friends all the time. i was just asking if any one knew a ball park price and if dealerships would accept my own pads if i bring them preferiably ceramics because they are longer lasting and little to no brake dust, my dad wants the dealership to do it ive told him id do it he says no for some wierd reson he wants to pay more just for the dealership do it i geuss he feels more of secure if anything gose wrong its the dealerships fault i dont know thats besides the point ive explain that MANY times but yet you say the same thing over and over and your advice is not good because your arnt ansering my questions and you are going off topic about how easy it is to change brakes... yea i know scew a few bolts loose remove pads surface rotors if needed put new pads in screw back on ... bleed brakes also if needed.

i understand the dealership isnt any greater than a mechanic but you try to explain that to my dad besides that yeah i have a k&n filter to i hope they dont throw mine away i will be pissed... but thanks for the heads up on that and if gdanaher would have stated his opinions (advice) in a more polite manner itd be alot easier to understand what hes trying to say i usually like to ask around before i buy or do anything to make sure what im gettin is good so i just want to know what is a good brand of ceramics.... and i will call toyota to find out prices and if i can use my own parts.. since no one here has a straight forward answer
