5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My preference for exterior color is Magnetic Gray. Which interior color is better for resale of a "SE" type vehicle, black ("dark charcoal") or gray ("ash")?
I'm in Florida and it's freakin' hot now! That is really the only reason I'm considering the gray interior even though it will be a pain to keep it looking clean. The test drive vehicle was black on black with cloth seats and, while it was Africa hot when I got into it, the car cooled off very quickly with the AC cranked up.
FWIW, other than color, these are my preferred options:
Leather (either the "sports leather" or "leather faced" type)
Sports Convenience Package (Homelink, auto-dimming rear view with compass)
Moonroof
Spoiler
Basic (non-JBL) stereo (BTW, Bluetooth and the XM receiver were installed in the test drive vehicle. I'm still not sure if this is standard or if these are extra cost options.)
Smart key
I recommend black. In my opinion, gray just looks terribly bland, lacks any character and reminds me of disgusting GM products such as the old Chevy Malibu.
While I'm on the topic, I am VERY pleased that GM went bankrupt. Those bastards needed to be taught a lesson by the market. You can't make one car and then re-sell it with 8 different badges. Maybe that worked in Cold War times but times are changing.
acesk8er, I recommend you look at a car which has the JBL audio system. If you are planning down the road to build a whole new audio system, keep the stock audio. However if not, get the JBL. It's far superior to the stock audio. Furthermore, the Bluetooth that comes with the JBL system is a better integrated system as compared to those aftermarket things that many people are getting. XM is an accessory - that's neither standard nor an official option.

Interesting, because I am sick of having black interiors (I've had countless), so I went with the two-tone gray/black. Just something is irritating the older I get sitting in a black cave. I'd much rather have something lighter and brighter in my old age.
That was one of the things I told the wife when we were looking was I didn't care if it was tan or gray, just nothing black.
Don't get me wrong, I can see the appeal of black, but I've had my share of it.

Yazovets, thanks for taking the time to reply. FYI, the 2010 Camry V6 SE has a "mid grade" audio system option ("EXAT") that is nicer than a basic stock-type unit but not quite as nice as the JBL system. Bluetooth and XM are integrated, not external accessories. It also has a line-level AUX input as well as a "USB port with iPod connectivity". As far as sound goes, I thought that it is kind of weak but then most of what I listen to is talk-type programming so it's good enough.

Zonsolo, was two-tone an aftermarket option?
While we're on the subject, should I get the factory "Sport Leather Package" (with heated seats that I really don't need here in Florida...) or is the "Leather Faced Seats with LiquiCell", which is installed by Southeast Toyota, good enough? Is there any difference?
So far the overwhelming vote is for black leather, thanks for all replies.

Ah I see. I was referring to old info. I did not know there were now 3 audio system choices. That's only in the states it seems. My understanding is that the speakers and amplifier are equal on the low and mid-end options but the mid-end option gives you the BT and XM. Cool stuff that you can get these features like this. Before 2010 there was no factory XM, nor USB ports.
Anyway, we hope to see you on TN with pix of your new ride as soon as you make your decision!
