5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
my first post - I have a camry with 98k miles (I drive 100 miles a day for work, it's ok i get reimbursed), the mileage is great, but it's slow of course - it's a 4 cylinder. What's the best way to get more power out of the car?
Short ram intake? startin using synthetic oil and better gasoline? not trying to spend HUGE money on it, but want to be happier with the car.
(BTW, i know, it's a camry, just curious to see what my options are)
Yep, a turbo is the only thing that will bring some excitement to a 4-cylinder Camry. Alas, I think that constant highway cruising is a big waste for a turbo but it's your choice. I figure if you actually did a turbo install, you better use it and smoke them Honda and Nissan guys at the red stoplights in the city every time.

There is nothing you can do to this engine to boost horsepower to the point that it would make any difference, and with an engine with 98,000 miles, why would you want to take a chance with it anyway?
The Camry with an I4 is underpowered and has been for years. If you want to get there faster, trade it in for a V6. That's the only way to fix the problem.

Thanks for the advice(?). I figured, just wanted to hear it from the experts, hoping for some little unknown secrets. My friend's a mechanic and just dropped and MDX engine into his TL, so i'll play around with him and see what happens. Safe travels.
