Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hi I'm the new gal here. I have a 2007 Camry factory equipped bluetooth, navigation, 6 disc changer jbl. My radio suddenly went out on me but I immediately began to receive the most horrible static sound from 1 speaker. I took the car to the dealership and I was informed that the radio control switch went and that the radio could not be repaired. The dealer's service manager also informed me that they only install reconditioned radios and the cost would be $850.00. I left to think about it and discovered that my radio, navigation and bluetooth worked if my car was running off of the battery even though the static sound was still present. Once I start the car the radio, bluetooth, and voice for nav system immediately stops working. It doesn't make since to me that the radio is causing this especially when I found the static sound was present even when I removed the radio completely. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Please help I'm desperate and frustrated
Welcome to TN! I'm just taking a guess, but take a look at the fuse for the radio/accessories and see if one or more need to be replaced. If the head unit does need to be replaced, you might check online to see if you can find one on eBay or from a cheaper online Toyota parts store.

Thanks for the welcome and reply. I've had fuses checked and thats not the problem either. I thought of follwoing the dealer's advice and replace the radio until the radio worked when car was not started. I've taken the car to audio stores and just like the dealer everyone says they've never seen this before.
Sounds like there could be an alternator issue. maybe excessive voltage causing it to go haywire. Have the output voltage/amperage checked of the alternator.

Most autopart stores would check your alternator to see if the Voltage Regulator was going out in your alternator. Have you checked your BCM (Body Control Module) I am not sure how the circuit cards are configured on the camry's but i have seen the interior electronics go crazy from a faulty BCM!! But the dealer should had been able to troubleshoot with their fancy CPU and give you an accurate analysis. Good luck and keep us posted on your remedy!
I've got the 200 mile daily commute... only thing keeping my miles down is my travel... 63XXX on my 07 cam
I feel your pain that 36,000 was quickly. I'm finding out more about my problem before shelling out money to the dealer ( by the way that now admit to not knowing what's wrong). I now notice when car on aux and radio works volume jumps each time I depress the break pedal, hoping bad connect there.
So let me get this strait.. you put in the key and turn it to the first notch, the radio/nav will work? And turn to the second notch it still work? And when the engine is running it doesn't work?

Well I have push button start but yes what you're saying is correct. Push button once everything works, push button twice everything works, depress break and push to start car and nothing works. I also learned today that when it is working if I depress the break the volume jumps. I think this is a good sign since it doesn't work when I start the car which requires I place foot on break. I'm now thinking that something wired to breaking system might be the cause. Dealer wants to install radio, another mgr at dealer wants to install new amp and radio jam wants to put in a $1,700 radio, yikes!!!
