Copying keys for 2009 Camry

I know that the factory keys have transmitters in them so that a copied key without a transmitter won't be able to start the car. My question is, could a cheap copy without a transmitter open the door? And, the guy at Walmart who makes copies said that if you put a non-transmitter key into the ignition of my car that it would cause thousands in damage. True or false?
Thanks...

A copy with no transponder chip can open the door and trunk. A non transponder key cause thousands in damage? It does not damage cuz you cant even turn the key. He doesnt know anything.

Doesnt work for me like that. I tried with both my regular blank key (like what you have) and my flip key. Both will not turn. They both open the trunk but wont turn.

So I dont know why your turns but mine doesnt.

steering wheel lock engaged at the time and you didn't try to wobble the wheel so that you can get the key to turn?

Steering wheel no locked because I took out copied key and put my original key with no problems and without turning the wheel. Its not the cut because if it was, it wouldnt open the trunk but the key opens the trunk.

Regular key and flip key were cut by two different places and both dont turn ignition but opens trunk.

Isn't this the premise of the Valet key?

I forcefully gave it a turn in the ignition and it worked, then after a few goes or so, it got smooth to turn.

Not saying to force it or anything, just saying how cutting isn't always 100% spot on.
I was thinking of just inserting it into the keyhole in and out until the edges started to wear down

Valet key lets you only start the car. It does not allow you to open the trunk or glove box if locked with the master key.

So I'm guessing the valet key also has a transponder? I've never looked closely at it, but does it also require a battery?

Update to why my key wouldnt crank like BlackCamSE's...it seems the locksmith cut my flip key too much. Comparing the OEM master key and the key the locksmith cut it, it was too close to the groove. But thats what the Toyota dealership told me. I dont know why it works in the doors but not the ignition. I went to parts and they told me to go to service. Went to service and they said they'll do it for $98. Give them my cut flip key and waited 1.5 hours. As I go to service to find out how much longer, the tech/mechanic and service guy was talking and thats when they told me about the key problem. The tech guy was able to program the buttons but the key he couldnt get to recognize in his computer. Luckily, they didnt charge me the $98.

I contacted the seller and he's sending me a blank key for only $6 (great customer service). I didnt want to spend another $72 just for a blank key. Found out my sisters bf who works for Honda knows someone at Toyota who can do it for me for free. So hopefully I can get this done finally.
