Hello all. I am new to this forum. I am in the market for a new camry. I only have one question though. Before I get jumped on, I did use the search feature. My question is has anyone been able o successfully install a Viper alarm or any aftermarket one for that fact on a camry that uses the smartkey push button system??? I have read that some places say it can be done, others say no. Has anyone here had any experience with this? If you did, how did it/ is it going? Did the car get messed up or no? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
So there is no additional security I can place on it? Other than LoJack or something. I just would feel safer. But I understand about shops not wanting to mess with it.
it can be done, go to toyota and ask them, it work the same like a regular key, . I got aftermarket alarm on my key its not a smart key but works the same , in either one you have a chip that allow you to start the engine. Just with smart key you dont have to put your key in to ignition.
but if you gonna go with viper you wanna go with full option that allows you to see whats going on with your car on the lcd screen . If you still want to use only the smart key, you can have a option to : auto lock after certain time, vibration sensors, and custom sound .
i have the smartkey and i ran into the same probelm...2 answer ur question viper who is made by direct electronics made a module for the smartkey...now the viper 5900 will work but u would have to disarm the viper alarm b4 walking up 2 the car to unlock it with the smartkey..if u didnt do that, the smartkey alarm unlocking will set off the viper alarm causing a problem....ur next question is probley can u make it 2 where the smartkey will turn off the viper alarm 2, the answer i found was no....so after all of this i the best way 2 keep ur car safe is to have lojack and get a glass break sensor attached to the smartkey alarm and if u wanted 2 u can even get a pager for it so u would kno when ur car was broken into...hope i help ya out gudluck
