5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So while I was detailing the car I noticed both the chrome rings in the headlamps are peeling and bubbling.
Here are some pics. (pics might be a bit big because i want to show the detail)
Left headlamp.
Right headlamp
So they've never been opened, and still running stock bulbs.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Should I even bother trying to get them replaced? Like its such a small thing, every thing cant be perfect. But my warranty is almost over so I wouldn't mind taking advantage of it. Also I'm afraid if I leave it that it might get even worse.
So has anyone experienced this on their car? And should I even bother with warranty?
Thanks.

its 15 min to replace them. never seen that before though. i wonder if its still the bulbs somehow even though they are stock. it seems like heat is causing that.
headlights are expensive, i'd get them replaced. i could imagine it's just ordering parts and swapping them. prob takes less than 30 min at dealer.
def get them replcaed even if it's minor. thats the point of warranty
Very true just afraid that they could screw something up. Our 2004 camry had a fogged up light before we bought it (used) and the guy said they will cover it under warranty. Well they replaced it alright but they never aimed the headlight!! I didnt even know back then until one day I noticed how low the light was.. i re adjusted it myself. So ya I;ll ghave to make sure they re adjust it when I get the work done.

I dont think so... unless its really poor quality! The car has about 15k miles (converted it for you guys) and its inside the garage all winter. So it's only driven in the summer. And when it's driven, its parked in the garage at all times unless we are out some where.

Yea good thing I didnt get the HID kit yet! I'd for sure blame the hid's for it!
But I'll see what happens tomorrow!
try to get them replaced. if not get someone(pm me if u want me) to do a retrofit and while they do have then sand and paint the shroud with high heat paint.
Were you able to get them under warranty ??? I have not seen the shrouds peel like that either. Are you getting an HID kit or doing a retro ???
Glenn
Yup got them under warranty. Waited 10 mins to talk to the service adviser i believe. Took a look at the car for about 10 seconds. Walked back to the desk and he ordered a new set .
Should be getting them friday @ 1pm. They said about 1.5 hours to install though
And just a pnp kit for now........ unless they give me the old lights back, which i highly doubt
It wont take 1.5 hours. I guess that includes bullshit time. Just install it yourself.
I wish I could, but I highly doubt they would let me.
Or do you think it's possibly to just pick up the new parts? I'll have to ask them about this part. Because no way its going to take 1.5 hours. I would say 20 minutes tops!

You can probably just pick up the parts. When they call you to come in, go in and tell them that you're picking up the parts and you'll install it yourself. Tell them you have errands to run and you wont be available all day or the week.
30-45 minutes is more realistic. Than again, I'm not the type to rush and prefer to take my time.

If you can leave the car or wait for it I would have them do it, that way if something were to happen to your new headlights they can't come back and say you messed something up. But then again if you pick up your new headlights and install them yourself then you would have to drive off with the old ones cause they are still on your car Geez I just thought of that

I'll would drive off with the old one. There is nothing wrong with the functionality. Just aesthetic. If OP wanted, he can sell the old one for those interested in doing a retrofit. Than again, it all depends on how the dealership wants to handle this.
