I was wondering if this has happened to anyone on here. Last week the glass/plastic on the dashboard display started looking cloudy and sticky like it was melting. After a day, I was barely able to read the clock. After a week, most of the display is unreadible (picture below). I took the car to the dealer and they gave me the run-around saying that either the display shouldn't be in direct sunlight in the heat or that I had sprayed something on it. The car has only about 2,400 miles on it and I haven't had it more than a couple months. I didn't even had a reason to clean the display much less spray anything on it.
warranty that. dang looks horrible. looks like osmething maybe cracked to let air in/condensation?
and i laughed when the dealer said the display shouldn't be in direct sunlight. Go to the dealer. Have them replace it. DONT LEAVE WITHOUT A NEW DISPLAY.

In the mean time, if it is condensation, leave the windshield shade off, leave a window down a crack, and see if the humidity in the car can be cooked off. Maybe the moisture can go away. Did the inside of the car get really wet recently? Washed the carpets or something?

shouldnt be in direct sunlight? The service rep must be on crack, its impossible to drive in the daytime without the sun shining in through the windows. Argue with them and try speaking with another rep

^+1, how can you avoid not being in the sunlight. Like parking at work, or at the store, my car sits in the sun for 8 hours when I am at work. Def. get a new display under warranty.

rofl sometimes I wonder how an establishment can employ people who would say such things as that and not expect to be called on. It's as if random dribble comes out their mouths and they hold face wondering if the consumer caught on. Immediately, I would have asked him to repeat that statement, then repeat it again, and again and again until he realized how dumb he sounded. Then on that fact I would have made it obvious how dumb he sounded and probably would have him say the same thing to his manager right infront of me. I would probably continue to make it a known fact that these retarded answers are coming from a company with a reputable name such as Toyota.
Thats like going to them and saying that water gets into the car when it rains even though the windows and doors are completely shut. In return, they tell you not to put the car in direct rain.
Some plastics have a protection layer covering them from factory. A very thin sheet, see if an edge is loose and see if it wants to lift up and peel off.
