5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My Camry is 2007 XLE model with JBL sound system (radio + separate amplifier). As the previous owner installed shitty aftermarket radio and nav, I've decided to remove it.
I've installed new JBL radio bought on Ebay ( I presume this is 2009 or 2010 radio).
Everything ( radio, cd changer and bluetooth) work fine except the AUX jack.
Do you have any idea, why the AUX does not work? I've tried the radio test menu, and it shows all the time, that AUX is not connected. However I've checked the harness and it is fine ( from AUX adapter to radio, according to camrystuff.com).
And ideas?
Maybe my new radio does not use AUX any longer, but something has changed, like USB has been introduced, instead of AUX, etc?
If this is the case, can I find new harness anywhere?
check repair manual, check if radio you bought supports aux, and take it to dealer worst case. also i think something like this has been covered so do a search too.
I have a brand new factory head unit laying around not being used if yours is found to be broken. I only used it for about 2 weeks before I decided to go aftermarket.

Thanks for replies, but this AUX still does not work for me. I've downloaded user manual for Camry 2010, and I guess that my radio is neither type A,B or C so the conclusion is that it comes from Camry 2009.
I've also downloaded audio manual for Camry 2009, and my radio is "CD player with changer and AM/FM radio", i.e. JBL.
This 2009 audio manual does not say anything about USB, so I guess it uses plain stereo jack interface.
Today I would dismantle the radio and jack, and I would check the harness once again (i did not check last , it the AUX detection wire is not grounded).
If this does not help I would open the radio, so maybe I can see something inside (i.e. diferent wires are used for AUX detection for Camry 2009 and 2007, as the radios are slightly different)
Finally I made it working.
It has turned out, that the 2009 JBL is different 2007 JBL radio, although they are optically identical.
Most probably Toyota received some complaints about intereference/noise when the radio was operating in AUX mode and external device was powered using 12 V power port, so they decided to make the stereo jack ground "floating" ie connected to the radio unit through some capacitor.
This means that old stereo jack would not work any longer, so I had to add one more ground wire to the old jack adapter to make it working.
Hey Guys..I just installed the 2007 JBL NAV head unit in my 2009 Camry XLE. Everything works fine but the AUX. The external device signal is not getting detected by the NAV unit. I guess I am missing some connection.
Here is my connection :
Nav Unit(F14 Connector) Pin# 2------>Aux connector(F17) Black
Pin# 3------>Red
Pin# 5------>White
Pin# 6------>Green
I see, there is a "Brown" wire in the AUX F17 connector(Pin#5 in F17). This is hanging unconnected at the other end(I cut it from my old radio connector, its found to be extra and I had no instruction for it). What is this for ? Does anybody has the F17 layout with description for 2009?
I have a 2007 wiring manual, but it doesn't match with the AUX pin connector and wiring layout. Does anybody have a 2009 camry wiring manual ? Any suggestion would be appreciated...
Thanks

I guess you are facing the same problem.
I do not have 2009 wiring diagram, but I presume that those problems are because 2009 has separate grounds for AUX plug detection and shield.
In my Camry (2007) there were some resistors, the resistance was something like 3kOhms when the plug was in and 15kOhms when the plug was out.
I guess your first step should be to try to connect grounds, if this does not help you should either try to put those resitors or buy original AUX socket for 2007 Camry.
What I did to make AUX working (2007 XLE Camry and 2009 Radio), was removing those resistors from AUX socket and separating grounds for AUX detection and signal ( I had to add one ground wire ).
In your case you would need to connect two grounds and add two resitsors (3kOhms, when the plug is in and 15 when out).
Just to conclude the thread and for others who are facing the same problem, here is the solution. Tap ground signal from F8(old radio) Pin#18 and connect it to Pin#5 in F17(Nav). This is a Orange/Brown wire. Thanks to "09legend" for providing the solution.
I have the pdf document with instruction from dealer, if required PM me.
