2002 Camry RPM problems and p1135 code

Wassup TN,

THis is my first post, been always looking at your site and the posts but finally managed to sign up. Ive been looking around for forums but i get different answers to my questions since there are a couple problems with my 2002 Camry 4 cylinder

About Three weeks ago I was having problems igniting the car , so I was told it was the Starter because we hit the starter a couple of times and the car started. Once We replaced the starter , the Rpm's were low,
i mean low to the point
where you start the car and in about 10 seconds it would just shut off.
and the check engine light came on as well
We changed the spark plugs and the air filter, As soon as that was changed the RPM problem died, and the car was fine...but check engine light still on

About three days later, i was somewhere and i came back and turned on the car and the RPM's were low, lower than 500 and it was on the first stick and then it turned off..

First mechanic ran diagnostic and told me its was P 1135 which is the A/F ratio sensor ...

Second mechanic got the same diagnostic but told me that THE acceleration of the camry needs to be regulated through a computer of some sort so that the RPM issue can be fixed and its not the A/F ratio sensor...

This "acceleration regulation" was said by second mechanic to be done at the Dealer which means $700 atleast for this....He also has a mechanic friend that works on electricals that might be able to fix this ..

What is the problem from what there is and what is the solution and guestimated price?

Go with the first mechanic. At least OBD-II agreed with him.

Now if you're in California with PZEV then I think you'll get the 15-year/150K mile warranty on the sensors?? Not sure if you have PZEV in your state.

Shouldn't do that. But also check idle air control valve AND coolant temperature sensor. The latter can go bad and cause a problem similar to IAC idle problem. Of course we aren't getting into the EGR system yet.

There are DIYs on these you can search.
