I'm looking to buy a 2005 or 2006.. have Qs.

Howdy all,

I'm looking at buying a used 2005 or 2006 Camry LE 4cyl.

I just wanted to get some input from expert owners as to what some of the common problems might be (for those years) and/or what I should pay particular attention to... or what to ask/check has been done maintenance wise. I don't have a particular car narrowed down yet, but I'm guessing whatever I end up with will have 50-70K on it.

Also, what do you think is a good price in this economy? I was hoping to pick up a 2005 for $9-10ish. Does that sound reasonable, or too low?

Thanks,

-Nathan

if you searched, you would have found a thread or two on this:

the 05 - 06 models do not have any significant problems... the only things that i can think of are the intermediate shaft clunk or the water pump leaking. neither are major problems and are easily fixed.

Thumbs up

Yes camry are very reliable. That price you are hoping for is good.
I own a 2003 Camry Le, bought it @ 50K miles and the only problems i've had over the year are as follows:
Had to get throttle body cleaned up along w/ intake, was causing low rpms.
Water Pump leak
Change Gasket
Broke an aged stud on the wheels
Replace O2 Sensor.
I've spent less then 700 on fixing the camry and now i have 113K miles and it still rides smooth

Its a good and reliable car Cheap to fix, if you do it yourself.

The cars in this range are pretty bullet proof, but let me offer some tips about buying a car, especially from a private party. First, don't be hasty. Avoid a car that has been wrecked if it wasn't repaired properly. Get the VIN and check it for previous wrecks. Check the VIN to see if it is a stolen or junked car. Just last week, my son was looking for something and found his ideal car. I looked at it and found Bondo pealing from the fender, a bad CV joint boot, a loose radiator. A friend, a cop, checked the VIN and it showed up as being owned by an insurance company and had a salavage title. Obviously, no deal there.Just be very careful about private party sales. You might end up with no car and no money.

I recently went on vacation to Dubai, UAE. 99% of Taxis there are Camrys. One of the Taxis I sat in was a 2006 Gen5 with 450,000 KM on it!!! The driver said that there had been no 'major' issues with the car such as engine, trans, elec. or any other sort of failure which would have made the car unusable. The car runs 24 hrs a day in two 12 hour shifts with the drivers stopping for food and toilet breaks. Just have to make sure the periodic service is done on time and thoroughly.

That is amazing to me. Just thought that I would share.

+1

They're great cars. $10K should be doable.. Good luck!
